Marcin Drewicz: Warszawsiak to the Highlander with the answer of Part.3

Marcin Drewicz: Warszawskiak Góral answers about the urbanist task “Repolonization of Warsaw” by Sebastian Pitonia: a small “for yes” and a small “for no”. Part 3: What is to be and what is not to be?

Thus mentioned, but already beautifully urenesansowowa (or better, as we advise: with Polish barricaded) exhibition "boxes-clocek" from the corner of ul. ul. Marszałkowska and Świętokrzyska is to find its symmetrically located duplicate in the corner of Marszałkowska Street – Aleje Jerozolimskie.

Let us note here that this Gaudystov-neorenesansic sometimes wavy line characterizing buildings is to be subjected to these symmetrical buildings throughout the space discussed by arrangement-planning. Therefore, as for the horizontal plan, no "arabeska" but conventional Western European rigor at the same time and Polish.

In the course of further discussions, let us note that not even "arabeska", but – as individual expressed it – "Stambuł" (sic!) would feature the decor and details of the interiors of these buying malls "with restaurants and restaurants" drawn above or alongside multi-storey parking lots along Świętokrzyska Street on 1 side, and along Al. Jerozolimskie Street on the another side. "Because Poland lies between the East and the West" – as without hesitation he has rushed to justify the Designer himself.

Well... no! As you can see to the bare eye and what even briefly sounded in our erstwhile speeches, in terms of architecture Poland lies between the South and the North, not the East and the West. A lot to talk about. This North is simply a Baltic zone, so "German", but inspired by patterns from the distant Netherlands, through northern Germany, Denmark, Pomerania, Prussia 1 and the other, Latvia, until present Estonia – a well-burned red brick.

Interestingly, neither those russian architects in the mid-20th century nor Sebastian Pitoń presently did this trend of tradition, but the Gothic (north Gothic) in any part of Poland besides appealed. Although we have a clearly separated mazowieckie Gothic (sic! Warsaw lies in Mazowsze) draws inspiration from the North, in truth, he wanted-not-wanted, "from the Teutonic Knights".

South – i.e. tradition in the Italian general, but besides in the Polish edition – is most full represented in Krakow, but besides in thousands of another cities and towns in confederate and central Poland; Lviv is besides in the South. Vilnius, on the another hand, is simply a charming mixture of both of these traditions, South and North, just there, to the north-east as though they were converging.

So – no East! There is no influence of Islam's architecture on our architecture (and in Spain they are). besides the architecture of the most mostly understood Russian did not affect the western direction; but vice versa, as evidenced by baroque (even Rococo!) church in Kiev, Lviv and another places. Indeed, Russian painters successfully covered the Gothic interior of the castle chapel in Lublin with frescoes; but this is not an example until “the impact of 1 architecture on another”.

Thus, the finishing-retail “Stambul” in the task of Mr.Inż. In our opinion, it is worth replacing Pitonia with, as above, baroqueization or even... secession (sic! However, the close building of the confederate feathers of Jerusalem Avenue survived from war bombings and post-war demolitions). The designer will most likely explain that what was presented in the interiors, this is the author's variant of secession. Let us stay with the fact that we have not yet been shown adequate in this respect, so that we may have grounds to assert ourselves in our opinions about these interiors.

The Triumphal Arches of the 3 Breakthrough Battles – and here we decision from considering architectural-functional issues (return to them) to architectural-sculptural-symbolic issues.

author of these most likely in the beginning of March 2020 listened straight to this embarrassing, as the blood from the nose of the ongoing debate on the task "Led Zeppelina" (sic!), i.e. the monument "Bitwa Warszawska 1920" (yes! yes!) located at the time in the Square in Rozdroż. In these times of confusion and confusion, we live. On our knees, let us thank our Holy Patrons that Warsaw and Poland simply missed the realization of this quirk.

And that debate was going on in a area close the Center home complex, so just a fewer 100 meters from where Mr.Pitoni, father and son, are going to set up what they call the Warsaw conflict Memorial.

We are in a hurry to add, by the way, that we usage the concept of Miracle on the Vistula to describe the same historical event, due to the fact that the conflict was besides fought in vast spaces over the mediate Vistula with approaches to Warsaw as – fortunately – 1 of its nodes.

Was Poland developing in the first half of the 20th century, or was it rolling? In 1920, not a single bullet fell on Warsaw, nor even on its farthest (then) suburb; likewise in 1915. Only half a generation later, in 1939, and even stronger in 1944... We all know that. From 1918 to 1921, the Reborn Polish Army, in rule alone (!!!) defeated all specified dangerous enemies from, too the only exception in its history, the "Invincible Red Army" at the head, but from 1939 to 1945... adequate about it!

The location proposed by Mr Pitonia is correct, although we will talk further about the monument itself. The another 2 battle-minor locations are besides right: Grunwald from Świętokrzyska Street (because the Teutonic Knights pressed on us from the north) and Vienna from Al. Jerozolimskie (because the Turks pressed on Catholic Europe from the south); they were besides further.

Let's mention something else here. These are the many tens of places in Poland, during which, as we called it, we called it, our “Pope” – or papal pilgrimage to Poland – John Paul the Second celebrated an outdoor Mass for, at 1 time, even a million and more people, someway so embarrassingly inactive are not even marked in the field.

One of specified Masses, inactive for the communes, was celebrated in June 1987, in the Warsaw Defilad Square with its adjacentities, in the state country of godless communism against the background – nomen-omen – of the east facade mentioned here at the Palace of Culture and discipline named Józef Stalin. During this Mass, the Pope gave the Missionary Cross to almost 200 Polish missionaries and missionaries on various continents, i.e. he made their messages; missions to post-Soviet states had not yet been mentioned, as there had not yet been specified countries.

Truly, the memory of that event, supported by the archival video available on “Youtube”, throws a cross to the ground. Isn't that erstwhile the communistism of the Palace of Culture was erased, at least initially? A large white altar Cross against the background of the Palace! What a large Roman Catholic missionary power of late communist Poland (sic!). And today...?

It was over that millionth prayer gathering that a banner with the prophetic inscription “The 4th Pilgrimage in Free Poland” appeared among others (whatever we today, wiser about decades since then, about these “freedoms” did not think).

We compose about this due to the fact that it would be worth to place, from the side of Marszałkowska Street, a modest commemoration of the aforementioned event from 1987 – since it was there! – located somewhere between the entrance to the Palace of Culture, and the closer to Marszałkowska Street, the monument of Miracle on the Vistula River (because that is what it is expected to be called!), smaller and more modest in décor than this memorial, but like it corresponding from Mr Piton with the intention of yet scoping the post-communist Palace of Stalin.

Yes, we know that “posobrowism” versus “pre-personalism”, popes (after)sobor versus pre-sobor; but let us not underestimate our mass (sic!) state of consciousness, the state of spirit, the state of knowledge, the state of piety and this immensity of good will from the year here: 1987. Then it was us, and now it's us, the same, a small older, supported by the ever-coming younger years. Isn't it?

For example, it may be a small larger than these conventional Polish pillar chapel with the appropriate commemorative inscription on the stone board or at its ft of the lying field stone; it may be a chapel in the form of a tiny pudding in this conventional national style... In memory of this message of missionaries, this object should besides be equipped with any artistically expressed missionary themes: “Go and teach all nations...”, besides in photographs from that Mass. The patron saint of the chapel should besides be a missionary.

According to our understanding, the area mentioned here belongs to the parish of All Saints with the largest church in Warsaw located at Grzybowski Square. However, it is besides worth that in this area, whether inside the Palace of Culture or in the building – specified as the mentioned chapel – which is located outside of the Palace is best celebrated all day – for the busy staff employed in all these places and for visitors and travellers (also about them).

“They are the communist Palace, and we, on the top of this Palace, are the figure of Our woman of the Blessed Patroness of Warsaw” – more or little in these words he tells about his task of Podhale Gazda and architect Sebastian Pitoń.

specified realizations, but on the tip of temples, are met in Catholicism. From memory we callback Marseille and the Holy Mountain. Michael on the another side of France, although there at the top of the tower with the figure of the same Patron.

The thought is, in our opinion, forward, but the figure of the Holy parent should most likely be somewhat smaller – it is simply a substance of careful balance of proportion – than in the version presented in the above-mentioned film. So with the discussion of Sebastian Pitonia's task we climbed from the level of Defilad Square to the Palace itself, where the author intends to set even more figures – and all of them should be somewhat smaller in our opinion.

“For erstwhile the Father is angry with the soils, happy who escapes to the Mother...” – we have been singing for generations in the church, now in spite of the Catholic modernists (heretics?), who deny the very anticipation of God's sowing sinners. But this is the situation of the figure of the Holy parent mentioned by Sebastian Pitonia, traditionally catching with both hands the punches-muchs of God's Justice (these are no "guns") pushed from Heaven towards Earth.

In Pitonia, these cracks of lightning are held in the hands of figures of Our woman horizontally – so that spectators who bother from the Palace itself can see and admit what it is. But the spectators standing further distant from the Palace will have any difficulty for the same reason. That's 1 of the things to be carefully balanced in this multi-elemental project.

And another 5 – as we realize – besides many figures carried out by Mr.Inż. Pitonia on the highlands of the Palace of Culture: as many as 5 Angels (Archangels? their names?) pierced with spears as many dragons-snakes (as far as it can be seen in the above-mentioned film); Polish Eagle on the memorial of Miracle on Vistula picks up the sixth snake (or only the second 1 – depends as it is seen). The cross on the Crown of this Eagle – let us announcement it here – is besides tiny in turn.

“Something must be done about it!” “Don’t scare the children!” due to the fact that these snakes are truly ugly, immense and besides many (or possibly only two?) – from this side of the Palace, and even on the roof... legislature Hall from Emilia Plater Street. A kid from a visit to Warsaw will remember all these snakes and fear the full Warsaw (it does not take snakes; in the provinces for generations they say: “We Warsiawy do not like due to the fact that there is this full government). And the local-Warsaw children are...

"Oh, this mountain range..." he had a habit of sighing another Podakopian gazda, from the past generation, known to us many years ago. From where they were taken by Mr. The piton of these figures of Angels and Eagle with snakes? Well, in our opinion, from the Podhale wood handicraft, so in the first on a tiny scale, to the hands, to put in a area on a half-piece, on a chest, or to hang on a wall. That's where he plays for a medal. But respective twelve times enlarged...

What do I do about it? We propose: all tactfully reduce, any leave, and as part of the creative inspiration of the work of the celebrated Juan de Avalos made in the already mentioned Valley of the Deceased (Spanish Valle de los Caidos) in Spain, a brother in faith.

Sebastian Pitoń put 4 Angels (those with snakes) in his task on these – we deficiency the appropriate architectural word – 4 lower vertical formations of the Palace. Juan de Avalos, on the another hand, set up (see pictures on the Internet) at the ft of the large Cross immense over 20 metres of characters... 4 Evangelists with their animals-attributes; and above them already "only" the ten-meter tallness of personification of the 4 Cardinal Virtues—Shrewdness, Justice, Moderateness, Fortitude—also with attributes.

Thus we propose to replace the statues of these 4 Angels and snakes from the palace highlands with statues-personifications of the 4 Cardinal virtues. That's it.

Since placed in the year 2000 advanced on the Palace, clock shields are supposedly six meters each, how advanced should these figures of the 4 Cardinal Virtues be, but located below these shields, so that they are visible from below? That's a question for anyone who comes to the palace. The same question applies, of course, to this figure of Our Lady; it would should be the largest, due to the fact that it is to be the highest, so farthest from the lookers from the bottom.

But the Archangel slaughtering the snake-dragon on the roof of the legislature Hall let him stay according to Sebastian Pitonia's first concept; possibly a small reduced, or possibly not – to measure. The Orle and the snake located in 1 of its lines, but precisely on the opposite-eastern side of the Palace we will say further.

Here is the place for the announced breach of the concept known to us from the aforementioned movie Mr.Inż. Pitonia – in a vertical dimension, therefore: lowering the Palace of Culture, or its partial demolition from above (sic!). What level are you lowering to? We don't settle that here. What about those clocks? We're not pointing that out here either. What do we accomplish through this procedure?

  1. This, yes, the very proportional “spice” of the Palace yet ceases to be, after seventy years, this hated russian (post-Soviet) architectural dominant over the Warsaw capital of Poland.
  2. Speaking of the "Catholicization" of the Palace, this figure of Our woman of Grace will be lower, so it will be somewhat smaller than originally assumed, but at the same time more carefully performed, due to the fact that besides closer in the view from below.
  3. But this fact and at the same time more space around this figure adds fresh possibilities. According to the old Catholic artistic tradition at the ft of Our Lady, they can gather (become? kneel?) figures representing various social groups (states) of the Polish nation, contemporary us and the erstwhile ones. We do not hide that specified inspiration, this is simply a sculpture of large size, besides comes from a brother in the religion of Spain, where south of Madrid rises, having its sometimes dramatic past of the Angel Hill (the central geographic point of the Iberian Peninsula), where in the sculptural presentation of the various peoples of the erstwhile Spanish Empire, including Indians from different tribes adore the advanced column figure of Jesus with His Sacred Heart. present we watch the second version of this figure band. The first version in 1936 was first shot down by the red militia and shortly blown up by the red miners.
  4. So this peculiar “at the Palace” Shrine of Our woman of Grace will be located below, or about 2/3 of the tallness of close fresh glass towers. It's okay. It is best that the capital city of Warsaw derives profits from tickets for watching from above, at least from those fewer close high-rises of the sculptural group described here at the Palace and in general the full urban foundation proposed by Sebastian Pitonia. yet St. Patrick's Cathedral in fresh York It is besides surrounded, and more precisely, by its dominant tallness of these "money temples". But... there was a cathedral built first, here the Palace of Culture too. Let us add that Sebastian Pitoń does not plan to introduce high-rises on this 4th of streets, i.e. on this empty, on which the Palace of Culture rises.

This lowering of the Palace of Culture would be an activity in the calendar of works independent of the implemented according to the project. Pity of investment outside the outline of the Palace. Thus, with the erecting of objects on the current Defilad Square you would not gotta wait for them. Yes, the sizes of the figure of Our woman and the introduction or introduction of figures of these praying Poles of different times depend on the prior decision to lower this building or leave it in the amount which it has now.

Atoli any option – let us remind – remains the complete demolition of the Palace of Culture, in 2 variants: only the high-vertical part with the leaving of these extended horizontal formations, i.e. the legislature Hall, theatres, museums, etc., or their demolition, thus reaching an empty wide square as after the planting of this area before 1952 (the construction of the Palace began).

The point is that we mention to the late presented urban task by Sebastian Pitonia, and this full concept is based on leaving the Palace and even adds to it – as we have seen – further monumental attributes. The complete removal of the Palace together with these "level museums-theatres" – as many Polish patriots wished in the 1990s – would be a completely fresh challenge in terms of the improvement of this vast, now uniformly empty space, but this is not the case here.

What has this communism done to us Poles! Now mixed into 1 bizarre creation with liberalism – soc-demo-liberalism. Did he truly incapacitate us mentally?

These large and smaller Orthodox councils and churches erected by the Orthodox Tsar before the First planet War besides in the areas of the Congressional Kingdom – Priwislansky Country were besides “a part of large architecture”, also, as later the Palace of Culture – by the east Moscow (formerly Petersburg) power here for its glory erected as a sign of the power of the All-Ruse.

After the withdrawal from the area in 1915 of the Russian army and Russian officials, and especially after Poland regained its independence, no 1 hesitates that these truly large buildings – even though they were Christian temples! – to undress, at the head of the Warsaw advanced Council Alexander Newski, but... not immediately and not all.

As long as the Reborn Polish Army on the ft of war maintained a state of about 1 million, these churches, after being ordained to Catholicism, served this Roman Catholic army as simply garrison churches, just as before to the Russian army. It was not until after the war that they began to be demolished, although any of them were left as Roman Catholic churches in consultation with the local clergy, specified as the church of St James in Czestochowa, which, interestingly enough, was originally Catholic, i.e. before the Orthodox Russians seized it.

But in Warsaw, where after the war and revolution, any tiny Orthodox congregation found its refuge, the church was left at the Wolski Cemetery and the church in Prague as a cathedral for the full recently established Orthodox autokephalism in the Revival Republic.

So our Venerable dear great-grandfathers besides in the scope of the trial with architectural monuments of abroad power over Poland proved to be both decisive and practical. We don't have a Communist.

truly – did not these Poland come out more than a 100 years ago that it was stronger from 3 powerful and long-term occupations than those already more than 30 years ago from the destructive communism?
