In the Central African Republic, miners working on the waste from the Ndassima gold mine came across a gruesome find – respective bodies buried in gravel thrown distant by dense equipment controlled by Russian mercenaries from Wagner's group.
The first body was discovered by accident during the sifting of gravel; human feet were exposed from under the heap. After the debris was recovered, 5 bodies were found, and a fewer days later another six were found. The frightened residents alerted the local chief and moved their work distant from the site of the tragedy.
Ndassima, the richest gold mine in the country, has remained under the control of Russian mercenaries since 2017, to which president Touadera handed it over after receiving Canadian company Axmin. Since then, anyone who approaches the mines or surrounding rivers risks immediate execution and is shot by the Russians.
