The countries forming the coalition of volunteers will meet in early January in Paris to find the concrete contribution of each of them to the safety of Ukraine – announced Macron on Monday on social media. He stressed that security guarantees are essential to achieving a fair and lasting peace.

The AFP agency reported that Macron had previously consulted Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenski, US president Donald Trump, and European leaders.

Macro presented his initiative shortly after talks with Trump at the U.S. President's residence in Florida. During a joint press conference, both leaders informed of clear advancement in negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine. Mr Zelenski stressed that all key issues concerning the peace framework had been addressed and that crucial results had been achieved. Donald Trump added that about 95 percent of cases were settled, although any hard issues remain. The details of the arrangements were not disclosed.

What is Volunteer Coalition?

Volunteer Coalition was formed on 2 March 2025 at the initiative of UK Prime Minister Keira Starmer. It is created by states that declared their willingness to actively support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. It aims to coordinate global military, political and logistical assistance and to make mechanisms that could supply safety guarantees for Ukraine in the future. During meetings, European leaders discussed, among others, the supply of arms, training for Ukrainian soldiers and the creation of a common command structure with future stabilisation forces.

The coalition has 35 countries. Poland has been taking part in its activities since the beginning, supporting aid to Kiev, but, as Polish politicians emphasize, it does not plan to send its own troops to Dniepr.
