Macron and Orban gathering in Paris

French president Emmanuel Macron met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday evening in Paris; leaders, as was announced, were to talk during a working dinner. Orban arrived at the Elysée Palace in the evening, where he was welcomed by the French President.

The Elysée Palace announced earlier that Orban's visit would be an chance to prepare an extraordinary EU summit on 6 March "and to discuss further support for Ukraine and to strengthen European defence".

Macron Message

Macron addressed citizens on Wednesday in a tv speech. He estimated that the country's safety had become "more uncertain" due to Russia's threat and the change of the U.S. position on the war in Ukraine. He informed that he had chosen to "open a strategical debate" on the protection of European allies through French atomic deterrence. He announced further support for Ukraine and strengthening defence.
