Antoni Macierewicz, MP at the Sejm and erstwhile national defence minister, heard the charge of disclosing classified information. Prosecutors from Investigation squad 4 of the National Prosecutor's Office presented him with a charge and then interrogated him as a suspect.
The allegation concerns disclosure of classified information of different classifications between 2018 and 2020. According to the D.A., Macerewicz has revealed data marked as "Top Secret", "Secret", "confidential" and "Restricted" and another protected information regarding the circumstances and causes of the Tu-154 plane crash in Smolensk.
Function in the Smolensk Subcommittee
The disclosure was to take place in connection with the function of chair of the Smolensk Subcommittee and a associate of the Committee on Aviation Accident Investigation. The information was made available to the public by disclosure of the contents of classified documents.
"Interviewed as a suspect, Antoni Macierewicz did not admit to committing the alleged act and refused to give an explanation" - said Prosecutor of the National Prosecutor's Office Przemysław Nowak. The prosecution did not take preventive measures against Macerewicz.
No arrest
"There was no request in the case to safeguard the appropriate course of proceedings through preventive measures" - added Prosecutor Nowak. This means that the erstwhile minister remains at large during the further investigation.
