During the plenary session of the European Parliament, Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica announced that the European Union is ready to aid implement president Trump's peace plan, which aims to bring the conflict in Gaza to an end. Michał Kobosko, a associate of the European Parliament from Poland 2050 and Renew Europe, stresses, however, that so far the Community has not shown much initiative in the context of political stabilisation in the Gaza Strip. – The reality is that for the moment, the European Union's participation is minimal. The next phase must be much more present – evaluates the politician.

On 29 September 2025, United States president Donald Trump presented a 20-point peace plan for the Gaza Strip, which was signed at the summit in Egypt on 13 October. Among his most crucial assumptions is the ceasefire and Hamas release Israeli hostages kidnapped on October 7, 2023 in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. In the longer term, the plan assumes that Gaza will be free from terrorism, derelished and will not pose a threat to its neighbours. The precedence is to rebuild and make the region with the support of global investment. As stressed by the Polish MFA, “the Trump plan is simply a realistic and courageous effort to end the conflict and make conditions for lasting peace in the mediate East. It opens the way for economical recovery and for a two-state solution, including the integration of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank into the future Palestinian State."

– We talked a lot during the session in Strasbourg about how it happened that the European Union was so helpless and actually absent at the time of president Trump's plan, which is being implemented now, better or worse, more or little effectively, but is being implemented. I believe that the European Union must be much more present at the next stage. This was mentioned at the EU summit in Brussels. The Cypriot authorities have put forward a fewer point plan on what needs to happen next, as regards the Gaza Strip, in peculiar as regards reconstruction, the reconstruction of the totally destroyed site present – says Newseria agency Michał Kobosko.

Cyprus will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 January 2026 and announce that 1 of the priorities will be to bring the EU closer to the mediate East region. The authorities of that country presented a six-point recovery plan for Gaza before the gathering of the leaders of the associate States in Brussels on 23 October. It is intended to support president Trump's efforts towards peace in the Gaza Strip. The plan focuses not only on its reconstruction, but besides on humanitarian aid and security.

– Geographically, this area is very close to us, so the European Union will have a large deal to do with ensuring lasting peace erstwhile it comes to the mediate East and rebuilding the Gaza Strip itself. We cannot be absent at this table. – says Michał Kobosko.

The conclusions of the European Council of 23 October indicate that the EU remains committed to a comprehensive, equitable and sustainable two-state peace. It will support the rapid, safe and undisturbed supply of humanitarian assistance in coordination with global partners, including through the Cypriot sea corridor to complement land routes. The European Union is ready to contribute to the stabilisation, governance in transition, reconstruction and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. So far after 7 October 2023, the EU has provided nearly EUR 1.5 billion of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

"I think the European Union will be able to allocate circumstantial funds on recovery mechanisms. This is all very fresh, we are inactive dealing with an highly fragile ceasefire that we do not know if it will be sustained by both sides of the dispute – says Michał Kobosko. – But assuming this happens, the European Union should, on the 1 hand, be among the countries or regions which warrant the sustainability of this agreement. On the another hand, we should support initiatives to rebuild the Gaza Strip. It won't be a tourist supercurator, as we've heard late from the American side. People want to live there and must have the right to live there under bearable conditions, not as it has been for the last 2 years.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the establishment of a donor group for Palestine during the September message on the state of the European Union, including a peculiar instrument for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

"The European Parliament is divided on the issue of the mediate East conflict. It's very clear. To illustrate, from the center to the left we see more supporters of Palestine, from the center to the right it is the voice of Israel, so we have different opinions here. We agree, in fact, on 1 thing, that the continuation of fighting and the death of subsequent civilians must be stopped – believes the MEP. – It's not in anyone's interest that this war will continue, that people will die there, due to the fact that today, mostly civilians die there. I am convinced that this will happen and that the European Union, which can solve conflicts, can find compromises, must sit at this table and be active in the next phase of the talks.

Poland recognised the independency of the Palestinian State in 1988, and has maintained diplomatic relations with it since 1982. On September 30th, the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs stated that it was hoping to adopt the peace plan presented by president Donald Trump and considers it realistic to fulfil.

“Poland, like many European countries, advocates the concept of 2 countries, the creation of a de facto Palestinian state. We've been saying this for years and we're consistent. In fresh weeks, many European and non-European countries, specified as Canada, have recognised Palestine's right to make their own country. The conflict we are talking about has lasted for decades. And on the side of Hamas, and on the side of hawks, specified as Prime Minister Netanyahu, and even more so any members of his government, there is simply a tendency to sharpen, turn, increase the level of emotion – says the Euro-Parliamentarian. – Now you gotta go 1 step further. On the 1 hand, the arabian countries must press Hamas and find a way out for their influences, and on the another hand, president Trump's administration must influence the Israeli government, which is very dependent on the United States, in order to reduce these hawks' appetites and words, which sometimes fall from any Netanjah government ministers, that the Gaza Strip must be leveled to the ground completely, that the arabian population that resides there should be decently eradicated.

According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which is referred to by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA), from October 7, 2023 to October 29, 2025 68,643 people were killed in the Gaza Strip and 170,655 were injured. Since the entry into force of the ceasefire, 211 Palestinians have died, 597 have been injured, and 482 bodies have been recovered from the rubble. Despite Israel's ongoing raids, humanitarian organizations are expanding aid efforts in the Gaza Strip. These include supplies of medicines and surgical instruments. OCHA reports on the immense needs associated with the restoration of the local wellness strategy – present only 34 percent of medical institutions are operating.
