Bald with the Order of the White Eagle

On independency Day, the president Karol Nawrocki awarded the Order of the White Eagle to a prominent writer Waldemar Bald and a imprisoned writer and activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Pochobut.

Nawrocki said: "Waldemar Lysiak over the next decades has become a model of intellectual sovereignty, intellectual sense. What Mr Waldemar Lysiak gave to my generation is besides a large love for history.”

Here are the words of thanks to Waldemar Lysiak for the award to president Karol Nawrocki:

"The mark of the White Eagle gives us all the deepest and most sincere emotions. It reminds us of thousands of years of history, in which under this sign we united in the fight for the greatness, durability and independency of our homeland. Standing together now looking at the White Eagle, we contact what is most crucial and most beautiful in the life of Poles, the feeling of being part of a large nation.”

Still in the Belarusian prison

Giving the award to Pochobut, the president stated that:"Although he was pursued by the Belarusian government from 2011 and 2012, he did not leave Belarus, fighting for values that were crucial to him. all day spent by Andrzej Poczobut in Belarusian prison is simply a day of triumph of good over evil”.

Order of the White Eagle

Order of the White Eagle is the highest order of the Republic, established in 1705, reactivated in 1921. It is given for its outstanding civilian and military merit to the Republic of Poland, located both during peace and during the war, the most outstanding Poles and the highest representatives of abroad countries.

Other honours

President Karol Nawrocki besides presented another awards. The Officer's Cross of the Order of Polish Revival received a TVP athletics commentator Przemysław Babiarz and a physics scientist Konrad Banaszek.

On the another hand, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta was honored: an astronaut Sławomi Uznański–Wiśniewski and actor Adam Woronowicz.
