FRANKFURT– Lufthansa (LH) has confirmed that its long-anticipated Allegris cabin retrofits for the Airbus A350 fleet will finally begin in 2027.
The decision comes after several delays, as Lufthansa has been focused on deploying new aircraft with factory-installed Allegris cabins before turning to retrofits.

Lufthansa Confirms Timeline For A350 Retrofits
Lufthansa stated that its Airbus A350 retrofits with Allegris interiors will officially begin in 2027. The program will cover the existing A350-900 fleet, ensuring consistency across both newly delivered and older aircraft.
With Munich (MUC) and Frankfurt (FRA) acting as primary hubs for the airline’s A350 operations, travelers will need to wait until 2027 to experience the full Allegris product across the existing fleet.
New deliveries of the A350 with Allegris are expected to continue in the interim, bridging the gap until retrofits begin.
Let’s look at other aircraft types operated by Lufthansa and see the retrofit status of these aircraft.
Airbus A330-300 | Retiring – will not receive new cabins |
Airbus A340-300 | Retiring – will not receive new cabins |
Airbus A340-600 | Retiring – will not receive new cabins |
Boeing 747-400 | Retiring – will not receive new cabins |
Boeing 747-8 | Will be retrofitted with Allegris product, but temporarily with two types of business class |
Airbus A380 | Receiving cabin retrofits, but not Allegris – instead a more generic business class product |
Boeing 787-9 | Acquired secondhand, to be transferred to Austrian; will not be retrofitted |
The Allegris product is Lufthansa’s most ambitious cabin upgrade in years, featuring a completely redesigned business class, premium economy, and economy class.
Premium economy will see upgraded seating with enhanced recline and personal storage, while economy class is being redesigned for more comfort on long-haul flights.

Impact On Lufthansa’s Long-Haul Network
The carrier operates 31 Airbus A350s:
- 10 delivered since early 2024 with Allegris cabins
- 17 equipped with the older Lufthansa business class
- 4 previously flown by Philippine Airlines, featuring a modified business class layout
With the Allegris retrofits, the airline is planning to gradually assign upgraded aircraft to long-haul destinations where premium demand is strongest.
This could include routes to New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), and Singapore (SIN), though final deployment details will depend on aircraft availability and retrofit schedules.
The delayed rollout may temporarily place Lufthansa at a disadvantage against rivals offering next-generation cabins sooner.

Bottom Line
While the 2027 timeline may seem distant, it represents a clear commitment from Lufthansa to complete its fleet-wide cabin modernization.
Passengers flying on newly delivered A350s will continue to experience Allegris earlier, with retrofits ensuring consistency in the following years.
This plan highlights Lufthansa’s balance between immediate fleet expansion and long-term product investment.
