"The European Union should keep strong defence ties with the United States despite deteriorating relations with president Donald Trump", says Lithuanian Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius. This is peculiarly crucial for countries bordering Russia.
"We have very crucial NATO partners who agree with usboth politically and in terms of providing us with defence capabilities. Like Norway, Canada and the United States," said Šadžius in an interview with Politico. "For all border countries on the front lines with hostile neighbours, the participation of the United States [within NATO] is absolutely crucial," he stressed.
The Minister added that the US is 1 of NATO's most crucial members, "so they were, are, and remain, very crucial defence partners for Europeans."
"I think we should do everything possible to integrate our allies in a common defence effort," he said.
