Latvia's president Edgars Rinkeviczs called for this year's parliamentary election to return to the conventional hand-counting vote. "In a substance as crucial as the general elections in a democratic state should not be relied on failed IT systems," Rinkeviczs stated on Monday.
According to the President, Latvia's society must be given a clear assurance that this year's parliamentary elections will be held in a fair, transparent and safe manner so that there is no uncertainty about the reliability of the results.
Elections for the Latvian Parliament (Saeima) are scheduled for autumn. The National safety Council is expected to address the election process, possible threats and external influences at its April meeting.
