Chopin airport in Warsaw is open, but flights were suspended until further notice. The decision is related to Russian drones violating Polish airspace. Passengers are asked to follow authoritative state and airline communications.
On Wednesday morning, Operations Command of Types of Armed Forces reported that during the night attack of the Russian Federation carrying out strikes on objects located in the territory of Ukraine, our airspace was repeatedly breached by drone-type objects. In order to guarantee the safety of the Polish airspace, the Operational Commander of the RFA has launched all essential procedures. Polish and allied aircraft operate in our space, and ground air defence and radio-location systems have reached their highest readiness.
The American national Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that 4 Polish airports: Chopin Airport in Warsaw, Warsaw-Modlin, Rzeszów-Jasionka and the port in Lublin were closed on the night of Tuesday for Wednesday due to "unplanned military activities related to the safety of the state".
"Due to the actions of state services and troops to guarantee safety, the airspace over part of the country, including over Chopin's Lotniss, was temporarily closed. The airport remains open, but there are presently no air operations" - said the airport on the social portal.
As added, passengers are asked to follow authoritative state and airline communications.
According to the regulations at Chopin Airport in Warsaw, from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm, the "core night" is mandatory, which is the ban on the take-off and landing of aircraft. However, this does not apply to delayed flights for reasons beyond the control of airlines, medical and state safety flights.
