It's done! Minister of Agriculture and agrarian improvement Stefan Krajewski (PSL) requested the conclusion of the moratorium for elk in the course of his work on the amendment of the regulation on hunting periods!
For almost 2 years, the Ministry of Environment has been working on discarding ducks from the list of hunting species. A fewer days ago, Under-Secretary Mikołaj Dorożała reported that he was withdrawing from the thought of banning cross-breeding and cyanosis, whose numbers do not decrease, so there are no substantive arguments to include the protection of these species...
Ducks and elks
To jointly sign the amendment of the regulation on hunting periods – by Minister Stefan Krajewski and Mrs Paulina Hennig-Kloska – the road is inactive far away, but a complete change in the position of the Ministry of the Environment opened the way for discussion. Today, the Ministry of Agriculture has requested that the year-round safeguard period for elk be repealed as a complement to its position.
Undersecretary Doroża after an unsuccessful effort to remove from the list of hunting species all the ducks now wants to establish a moratorium for: melancholy, headhead, baldies, gerbils and elephants. On the first 3 species of ZG PZŁ, he issued a position in which he agreed to introduce a five-year moratorium, while on the yarząbka and the elephants of the Ministry of Agriculture did not talk due to the fact that they are forest species.
When reading the entries of Mr. Nicholas Dorożała 1 can conclude that he sees a shadow of hope that he will be able to get the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture to introduce a moratorium for 5 species of birds. I do not know the content of the justification – which Minister Stefan Krajewski sent to the Ministry of Environment present – but everything indicates that the Ministry of Agriculture and agrarian improvement would see an chance to scope an agreement if the same amendment took into account the conclusion of the moratorium for moose...
Rebuilt moose population
The number of moose in Poland – thanks to the introduction of a moratorium at the request of the Polish Hunting Union in 2001 – has been rebuilt to the level of over 40 1000 pieces! all year, about 10 percent increase and increase harm to forests and agricultural crops. It should be remembered that quite a few moose die on the roads – creating a deadly threat to people – but besides on fences during migration...
No uncertainty present there is no longer any justification for continuing to keep the moratorium and the hunting period for this species should be restored as shortly as possible. After more than 20 years of moose protection, they happen throughout the country, but according to the old rules of selection, their firing would only be possible in the east part of the country, where the population now exceeds 5 individuals per 1000 hectares of forest and swamp land.
Time for a substantive discussion
During a completely non-substantial media debate on limiting bird hunting, where statements by the Undersecretary Only the hunters from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Polish Hunting Union were offended by the demands of discussion not only about possible bans, but besides about extending the list of hunting species with cormorants, herons and ravens, as well as extending periods of hunting for pigeons of fines and geese, which origin expanding harm to agricultural crops.
We should hope that the representatives of the ministries will yet sit down to a table where they will put substantive arguments. There's no reason to defend gerbils, elephants and moose! The question of extending the hunting period should besides be discussed, and erstwhile the ministries cooperate, we may besides see a fast expansion of the list of hunting species.
