Lithuania launches partial evacuation of its citizens from the United arabian Emirates
and neighbouring countries due to persistent tension in the mediate East, said Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene today.
Evacuation will concern people in the UAE
and belonging to the alleged most susceptible group, i.e. the sick, pregnant women, the elderly, children. According to the head of the National Centre for Crisis Management (NKVC) Vilmantas Vitkauskas specified people are about 20.
– We are talking about evacuation from these points in the region, where it is even possible," said Vitkauskas at the press conference. He recalled that Emirati airlines resumed flights but to a limited extent.
– There is simply a problem of deficiency of flights, it is very hard to get tickets, so it was decided to aid those citizens who request to leave most," said Vitkauskas. He added that for now there is no anticipation to evacuate citizens by military aircraft.
The evacuation plan shall not apply to Lithuanians residing
in Israel and Lebanon. Local authorities are advised not to decision around the country there," recalled the NKVC chief.
According to the MFA data, there are presently about 2,000 Lithuanian citizens in the mediate East. Most
in the arabian Emirates, 1259, in Israel, about 180,
in Lebanon – nearly 20.
