“Walking, business and stupidity”
We were amazed and disappointed to read the text "Walling, Business and Stupidity" by Mrs. Aleksandra Piascik, which appeared in the 24th issue of "Angora". It violates the fundamental principles of journalistic integrity and misleads readers, spreading ignorance about the Polish mammalian nomenclature. The dictionary "Polish mammalian names of the world" (Cichocki et al., 2015) is not a paper imposed by the “central” of the Polish Academy of Sciences. This is the consequence of the work of a squad of theologians and systematics – specialists who have spent years cleaning up the name chaos present in both discipline and popular language.
This work was based on modern arrangements for systematics and according to taxonomy guidelines, and its intent was to organize inconsistent, frequently contradictory names. It is interesting to note that at the time of writing the dictionary on 5700 modern mammalian species only 800 of them had Polish names. The publication was published almost a decade ago and the proposed names are now widely utilized – in natural films (issued, among others, in Planete+, TVP), in zoos (e.g.ZOO Poznań), in technological and educational publications.
The allegation of alleged inaccuracy in the name “one-toothed naval” reveals a misunderstanding of both etymology and species biology. Latin name Monodon monoceros comes from Greek: monos – one, odous/odontos – tooth, keras/keratos - The corner. It means “one-toothed monohorn” – and refers to the typical feature of most of the males of this species, in which 1 tusk pierces the lip and forms a spiral “horn”. The occasional cases of 2 fangs are exceptions, not norm. It's like denying the name "five-fingered" for a man, due to the fact that individual was born with six fingers. The allegation relating to the usage of the adjective ‘oceanic’ towards whales is besides unfounded. In biology, adjectives specified as ‘oceanic’, ‘mountain’ or ‘steppe’ mention to the typical dominant environment of life of a given species – not to its exclusivity.
Oceanic species can besides be found in the seas or bays – like the Carpathian species can be found outside the Tatras. It's the basics of biology, not publicist polemics. The author states that the fresh names “sound strange” or “does not work”. However, many of them – e.g. mirunga, black bear, as well as the author of the white bear – come from earlier sources, including the "Small Zoological Dictionary". Ssaki” (ed. Kowalski, 1991). In many cases, mammalian names are not neologism, but restored, logical, systematic terms. fresh names frequently mention to the Latin name e.g. zyfia – Ziphius, fereza – Feresa, tasmanoval – Tasmacetus or English, e.g.: a melonhead – is simply a literal translation of English melon-headed. Many Polish names were inconsistent and misleading.
One species, a sage rat (Rattus rattus) functioned under 5 different names: sage, ship, roof, black and house. Similarly, the "mouse" was referring to completely different types (Mus and Apodemus). The fresh rules are clear; now the mouse is kind of MusAnd the mouse is Apodemus – it is clear and consistent with the system. In science, there is simply a separate way of honoring discoverers of species – the author's name and year of description are always attached to the Latin technological name [e.g. Plecotus austriacus (J. Fischer, 1829). Exceptions are made only for the names of Polish scholars, specified as Dybowski and Taczanowski and for names that are already popularly Polishized, like Linnausz.
When creating genre names, we tried to limit the usage of the names of people (eponims) who are twisted or unacceptable. For any names, e.g. from German, spelling makes it hard to compose and read correctly. Zoology is not a popularity contest. The article reads that “names are besides long” or “hard to pronounce”. Is that a criterion? In that case, we should say “bird” alternatively of “sprouting cross” or “cat” alternatively of “European cane”. The name is not a short story.
As the authors of the dictionary remind us: shorts are not a mistake, but they should not be a standard. Especially where we require accuracy and clarity. In Mrs Piascik's article, she is mistaken many times: she combines etymology with systems, treats colloquial (vernacular) names as scientific, does not separate between generic and genre names.
It is worth recalling that since the time of Charles Linnez (i.e. since the 18th century), the creator of the Binominal System, the strict convention has been in force: generic name (e.g. Rattus) is written in capital letter and italic, species name (e.g. Rattus rattus) – two-member, besides in italic, with a second lower letter. Their counterparts in Polish should keep this order: generic name (e.g. rat – for kind Rattus), species name - two-member and unambiguous (e.g. sage rat - for species Rattus rattus). Any departure from this rule leads to chaos and errors – besides in education, translation and popularization of knowledge. That is why taxonomy cannot be subject to subjective sentiments or publicistic simplifications.
The proposition that scientists are "against society" is pure demagoguery. First of all, no 1 prohibits anyone from saying "delfin" alternatively of "tonine". Secondly, changing the language is simply a process, not a decree. Thirdly, society is besides teachers, biology students, educators, translators who scope for fresh names – due to the fact that they are precise. Supposedly changing names would force an costly exchange of logos, advertising materials and company names. but it's a complete misunderstanding. The name ‘orca’ has not been abolished anywhere, like ‘butlonos’ or ‘walrus’. All these terms inactive work – both in the common language and in the dictionary. If they were not changed in 2015, there is no reason to do so today. The author seems to anticipate that any change of name should be preceded by broad public consultations.
It's a misunderstanding of the essence of technological work. For comparison: a squad of ornithologists from the Jagiellonian University has been developing and updating bird names in the "Complete list of birds of the world" database for years. No social consultation has always been organised on this issue – and rightly so. Names are determined on the basis of systematic, etymological, historical cognition – not media voting. Can you be afraid?
Fortunately, the crucial media in Poland (including “my” weekly) did not print Joachim Brudziński's instructions before the elections, as well as what to do on the ballot to make the vote invalid – in guesses in these regional electoral commissions, where the author would have no chance of winning with anyone. I'm not gonna describe it due to the fact that the editor's gonna print it, someone's gonna cut it out of the paper and save it for the next election?
I was inspired to compose a letter by the reprint of an article from “No” (ANGORA No. 25) entitled “The Architecture of Shadows”. It's a large analysis of “Little Żoliborz”, what it does not rule, but dropped us the "Sutener" version of president 3.0 just to not only divide, but above all to knock out Morawiec, Błaszczak and Czarnek not only the presidency, but besides to take over the schema after him. "Divide et impera – divide and rule. The Roman regulation of conquering and subjugating peoples by continually inciting interior conflicts in conquered areas" – as a definition.
In our case Little man It comes mainly to political opponents, especially one. After all, he has over 10 million devoted and prepared followers. Simpler – it fights as much as possible everywhere, to further make it easier and more effective to rule. And he does it in his own ranks. Our native “pocket dictator” is so pocket money that cannot be compared to Hitler, Stalin or Mao. In my opinion, it is an extended and expanded populist, incapable to address the real challenges of civilization that stand before Poland – due to the fact that he does not realize them himself.
Already at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, French author Charles Péguy wrote: "Populists' success is transient, but the ruins they leave behind are eternal." They may not be eternal here, but like the four-year-old Parliament of the late 18th century, the PiS has a “doing” Confederacy that has not yet ruled, but preys on them, and... a left that “evens the odds”.
So fiercely together with the PSL squad and partially with the PO (JOW and referendum as panacea) “compensated” that now they wonder how it happened that the pigs stole our subjects? It's already happened that we have 2 large piles facing each other, each with more than 10 million adults, and there's no strong 1 present to reconcile them, due to the fact that Nec Hercules, contra plumes – And Hercules ass erstwhile people poop, in free translation from Latin. About language... exclusive
With large joy and interest I read Mr Marian Waszkiewicz's letter "Children failed to make the road map" (ANGOR No. 24). Why with joy? due to the fact that I think the subject is very important, even burning, and so small is said about it. Why with interest? The first reason, and the second reason, the letter is very interesting, with good examples. I agree with Mr Marian almost 100%. Almost due to the fact that the only place I'd study votum separatum, are “children”.
I do not take that word as “no respect and no serious treatment of children.” For me, it is warm and pleasant. We find English in our regular language almost all step of the way. Is it incorrect that we usage them? Not necessarily. Sometimes these words take a good place in our language. I don't see anything incorrect with the word computer. I guess only the French usage their own, another word in the authoritative language. They tend to keep their language clean, possibly a small besides much.
So will the horse with a row to whoever makes sense and briefly (!) translate the word “overlock”. The thrower? I don't think so. We buy an overlok at the store, we usage an overlok at home, and it's fine. Similarly, the word “mail”. The word ‘electronic letter’ can be used, but this is already done long. On the another hand, it is worse erstwhile we have clear and simple equivalents in our language, and yet we force the words translated alive (although the title road map) e.g. from English.
I got scratches erstwhile I heard about tarts, rollerblading products and akin monsters at work. The gold medal was won by a colleague who in his presentation said that “the operator must predicate” (predict – predict). In the corporate area, these flowers can be mowed. There's a bunch of them. There's a 3rd group of English. I think she's the dumbest. These are words that came into the Polish language from outside, which have gained any meaning, and present individual puts them alive in English, despite the fact that in this language they have different meanings. For example, “an exclusive interview”. How exclusive is he? Exclusive can be a club, a restaurant shop...
Intelligence is on exclusivity! And even worse, these “exclusive interviews” were invented by journalists. People whose goodness and purity of language should lie most on their heart. Which they should promote. The tempora, the mores... And finally, where does this push for angile tongue come from? I think it's just complex. due to the fact that what's Polish! I'm trendy, bald and beautiful, and I belong to a better caste. Oh, I don't think... I have frequently dealt with people at work, especially young people who knew well (as they claimed!) respective languages. Unfortunately, Polish was not on this list. Writing decently meaningful writing was beyond their capabilities. But the CV was mentioned: English, French, German, and sometimes Italian or Spanish. So what if the recipient was a cultural, well educated Polish client? Mr Marek Pieńkovski
My appeal
I was disappointed to read any of the texts in ANGEL No. 24. I know, read and appreciate Tygodnik for his uncompromising attitude towards partying, lying, and specified theft in the execution of the Law and Justices and the foolishness of their man standing guarding the chandelier at the Palace. Now it seems that – as you hear in many online comments – the failure to replace... the pimp. Meanwhile, in ANGORA I see texts almost calling: Poles, nothing happened.
It begins my favourite columnist Henry Martenka (or we are such...). While I appreciate the introduction of the communicative about Poland divided in half, I find that I am closer to the reaction of "a small neurotic Polish intelligence" than to trying to make a communicative that we must live with. No, we cannot decision on to the agenda that individual with specified a reputation will hold the highest office in Poland. This is not about, Mr. Editor, the Nawrock voters I may resent, but about being deceived. After all, who of us has not been deceived for erstwhile in his life. Especially by politicians.
How can we prove to these people that, in Nawrocki's case, they were deceived perfidiously? Bring to an end cases related to allegations of the usage of positions for individual gain, both spouses justice for extortion of the flat – first from the city, then from a single man, return to court cases against the Kibolian statutes. This would be, in my opinion, a program to reconcile the broken Poland. Let the deceived learn what the fact is, and let the another side of the dispute be satisfied that it has proved it. However, this was not the end of my disappointments with the ANGORA number. Right on the next page Michał Cucumber is again “fearing off” to the prof. I value.
Mr. Editor, it's not about whose voters were more. If 2 comparable candidates were to stand up, we could talk about the collective wisdom of voters of 1 or the other. And democratic rules. Meanwhile, the qualifications and integrity of 1 was opposed to incompetence, swindling, deception, and the hooligan methods of the other. individual like that shouldn't be a candidate. Is age truly adequate to become president?! It is simply a shame for us voters (for everyone to be clear) that on the ballot there was specified a name.
What do the government gotta do with it? The government, like everyone else in the past, has failed to keep its promises, so we're going to choose (I emphasize:) the bad guy as president? The more unfulfilled promises, the worse the huchsztapler can be president? Really? There will most likely be letters in ANGORA in defence of Nawrocki, which mark those who complain at him. Knowing any writers, I could easy choice out who they were coming from.
I call on ANGORA and another media not to be deceived and not to begin to "warm" the image of president Elect. First of all, we know that the elections were far from honest, and his eyelids won't even move. They've turned the election like everything PiS takes. Second, who the bastard was, the bastard will remain. Third, this warming won't do anything to people like me who will never be president. ELA

After a bad night's sleep since the last election, I have any thoughts that I have decided to put on paper and send before the independent press disappears. I wonder how he knew that the election would win in the morning and why the opposing organization did not know about it. A long time ago, erstwhile I was a associate of the election committee, we worked for free as long as it took. erstwhile the premises were closed, ballot cards were removed from the urn, separated depending on the deletions and counted in the presence of all curious parties. After counting the votes, the minutes were made, the cards were secured, and the results were transmitted by telephone and the same ones placed in the cabinet for inspection of the residents.
Somewhere in the back of our heads, we had a well-known saying that "not the 1 who votes, but the 1 who counts the votes overcomes." The full operation lasted respective hours, and the final results in the country were mostly announced the following day. What happens now that in 2 hours we know everything? Is there any modern method of counting, or is there just a specified randomness, thamiwism, or something much worse? In six provinces he definitely won the PiS.

Although the socialist organization promoted atheism, the discipline of religion was at school, and the Church needed to quarrel the nation well. I don't believe those words, but I remember them. On the another hand, my fellow countrymen must believe, since they chose a individual who declared religion and piety to the highest office in the country, giving no chance to the unbeliever Trzaskowski simply due to the fact that he removed crosses and thus was unbelievable to them.
Even erstwhile he sinned, Nawrocki confessed and is clean – as new. I don't think there are that many people who think that way, though, to win the election. They could be joined by those who are trying to: If, with the approval of America, Russian troops stand on the Polish border, it would be more profitable to stand by Russia's side. Kaczyński will enter the function of Bierut – the savior of the nation, and his organization with appetizers will regulation forever. I think my black thoughts are the consequence of a deficiency of sleep, and the future will be much better. Ukraine, supported, will defend itself, and we will be in the European Union without giving power to the Law and Justice. I want Poland and Poles a good future! RELEVANT READER
