The Director-General of Appel Române (“Romanian Water”) resigned in connection with the water crisis in the Prahova and Dâmboviţa districts.

A major crisis related to the deficiency of drinking water began on Friday, November 28, in the Prahova district, touching 12 localities. The residents of Dâmbovița territory were besides affected and the number of people deprived of drinking water exceeded 100,000. The main origin was the exceptionally advanced turbidity of the water in the Paltin Dam, caused by the abundant rainfall that brought sand and mud. Until the situation is resolved, i.e. until the Public wellness Directorate confirms that tap water is suitable for drinking, residents receive drinking water from state reserves.

Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu announced on Wednesday, December 10 that she had received preliminary results from a post-crisis inspection by the Control Corps in Prahova and Dâmbovița districts. She presented the conclusions and the actions taken, among which was the resignation of the manager General of the Appeal Române, Florina Ghių.

PSD coalition organization president, Sorin Grindeanu, asked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday, December 9, to resign the Minister of the Environment. The request, made during a private conversation, came after a crisis involving drinking water, with social democrats blaming Diana Buzoian, claiming that she is the main culprit. The Minister reiterated,“ I don’t give up, ” she said. It will be even worse, I will proceed the reforms."
