Embed in interior chaos – including financial weakness – Lebanon remains a passive observer of regional events, including another installment of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both the Lebanese authorities and the majority of society do not want war due to the fact that they realize that it would be a death conviction for their country. Also, the Shiite Hezbollah is not keen to set fire to the Israeli-Lebanese border, but at any point it can be set by the wall—if Israel makes a full-scale land invasion of the Gaza Strip, many will anticipate Hezbollah to have a strong military response.
