The Canadian lobbyist group, which has the position of a charity and supports assisted suicide, wants to extend Canadian rules on euthanasia to let minors to apply for this cruel procedure.
Left wingers want euthanized children. A group called Dying with Dignity Canada (DWDC) considers that Canadian rules on medical assistance in dying (MAiD) should be extended and include the alleged "mature minors", i.e. children aged 16-18.
Group says it is "National human rights charity", whose goal is "improve the quality of dying, defend the rights to end dying and aid people across Canada to avoid unwanted suffering". He claims thatIn Canada, the MAiD programme should besides apply to ‘mature minors’ who, as he claims, endure from ‘heaviest and irreversible diseases’.
"It is unfair to give a 70-year-old cancer patient terminally the option to choose a peaceful death, while denying a 17-year-old who has received the same diagnosis and who clearly demonstrates the ability to make the same decision as an adult, the anticipation to make the same choice" – written on her website.
In the current situation, MaiD is not allowed for minors, but lobby groups have pressed for an extension of existing legislation. DWDC through its channels on social media promotes its communicative that the MaiD program for minors is simply a show of compassion.
Euthanasia was first legalized in Canada in 2016 for people with terminal diseases. Since then, the eligibility criteria have been relaxed to let chronically sick people, not just terminal ones, to qualify for euthanasia.
In an effort to extend the procedure to an even larger number of Canadians, erstwhile Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government sought to enable people to benefit from it not only chronically and terminally ill, but besides those suffering from intellectual disorders. The current liberal government of Prime Minister Mark Carney seemingly wants to proceed strengthening the MaiD system.
In February this year, after opposition from pro-life groups, doctors and intellectual wellness professionals, as well as most provincial authorities of Canada, the national government deferred extension of the program for people with intellectual disorders to 2027.
