Although the amateur historian and declared anti-communist Leszek Żebrowski successfully cleared himself of his cooperation with the peculiar services of the Polish People's Republic, the analysis of his personnel file is interesting not only from the historical point of view. It makes it possible to learn the views voiced by Żebrowski in the 1980s, which stand in profound contradiction with his current views.

On 10 March 1983 Leszek Żebrowski met at the Warsaw cafe “At the Rozdroż” with Lieutenant W. Gierałt. The officer prepared from the gathering a comprehensive note, any of which relate to the views of Żebrowski on the introduction of martial law.

"During the conversation he shared his reflections with me from the past year. – noted Mr Gierałt – he believes that this period allowed him to believe in the good intentions of the Polish authorities, made certain that the martial law in Poland was valid, especially as the people of his family's background are of the same opinion, people [the] in the past in the 1950s were unjustly imprisoned and tortured. They consider that the introduction of martial law in Poland [is] a benefit. At the same time, they state that, despite the appropriate conditions associated with this situation, the authorities have not made all the moves that could improve the atmosphere in society. They mainly mean people in advanced positions of judaic origin who usage their capabilities for their own private purposes. So the candidate for TW, as well as his friends, believes that first of all the government, KC [?] should be cleared of this kind of people and of that part of the officials, which is simply a alleged "preservative detachment", not liking any change that can reconcile in themselves. In his opinion, as long as specified people hold serious positions in the authorities, any government-run, even the best, will not bring concrete results, but on the contrary they will be warped and can reconcile in utmost cases with those who take them."

I do not condemn the views preached by Żebrowski in those days. Moreover, I share them. They were a manifestation of a realistic attitude that was uncommon among alleged independenceists. However, the question remains: which Żebrowski was authentic? A realist from the 1980s or a contemporary self-proclaimed priest of damnation? Or possibly no of them.

I besides wonder what Żebrowski himself has to say about changing his views. conventional excuses about communist counterfeits or an operational game with a presence are not an option. In the end, there are plenty of witnesses who are willing to confirm that the content of the lieutenant's note. Gierałta does not deviate from the facts of the day.

In the 1980s – these Leszek Żebrowski powerfully but unsuccessfully sought to enter the strict informal ellipse of then national democracy. In the next decade, however, he changed his political sympathies by 180 degrees, although respective times unsuccessfully applying for a mandate from the list of Kaczyński brothers parties, the Centre's Agreement. For respective years, social-political and publicist activity has focused on promoting insurekt reasoning among the young generation of nationalists. He refers to his erstwhile colleagues with resentment, even hostility. For example, present our weekly is referred to as “Soviet Thought”. Well, as they say, the point of view changes with the seat...
