Leon XIV stood the wall behind Archbishop Jędraszewski!
date:14 June 2025 Editor: Anna
Kuria Krakowska officially confirmed: in the dispute between Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski and the parish priest of the Mariacka Basilica, Fr Dariusz Rasiem, Pope Leon XIV was definitely on the side of Archbishop Jędraszewski. Thus, the Holy See found that the charges of the Kraków metropolitan against Fr Rasia were justified. It's an interesting decision on many levels.

What is it?
Fr Dariusz Raś – privately brother of Ireneusz Rasia, presently Deputy Minister of athletics and politician with a rich organization past (e.g. PiS, PO, today's 3rd Road) – was accused, among others, of irregularities in the conduct of parish documentation, deficiency of inventory of assets, deficiency of cash counting protocols. He is besides accused of taking self-renovation work without the required consultation with the archdiocese conservator of monuments and accepting donations without the approval of the curia.
The full thing is explained here:
The audit committee besides drew attention to the way in which the parish was employed and rewarded – e.g. firefighters playing Hejnal Mariacki – and to the course of the competition for the position of organist, which was to be set to a circumstantial person.
Therefore, Archbishop Jędraszewski dismissed Fr Rasia from the function of the parish priest a year ago. However, he did not take the decision and appealed to the Vatican. The case was not dealt with for a long time – for the pontificate Francis remained suspended.
But Leon XIV, at the very beginning of his pontificate, took precedence on it. And this is simply a crucial moment: appeals from the decision of bishops in the Church happen, but rarely. Furthermore, Archbishop Jędraszewski had respective specified situations and all were decided in his favour by the Vatican. So in this respect, the decision of Leon XIV is not surprising.
However, the pace at which it was taken is surprising. The pontificate of Leon XIV lasts only a month, and yet local – and from the point of view of the universal Church alternatively insignificant – the substance was taken very seriously by the Pope.
If you're following this channel, you already know that Leon XIV is simply a balanced, methodical, calm man. He does not make decisions under the influence of sympathy or acquaintance. 1 can be certain that he personally read the documentation from Krakow and felt that the metropolitan was right. That's all – and that's all.
Of course – liberal or unfamiliar commentators of various ointments are now breaking hands. “How is that possible?” they ask. “Leon, who would proceed the improvement of Francis, makes this decision?” There is already a lamentation that it is now completely unknown who Leon appoints as successor to Archbishop Jędraszewski, and that surely the Pope had to be misled by – in quotes – the malicious environment of the Kraków metropolitan.
Journalists can compose anything. But suggesting that the Pope was manipulated is not only unfair – it is an allegation that has no basis in facts.
Leon XIV, before becoming Pope, was Father Robert Provost – for 12 years general of the Augustine order. He visited provinces and monasteries in more than 50 countries, regularly participated in the Chapters, and his doctorate afraid de facto management in the Church. He is simply a doctor of canon law and mathematics. For almost a decade he was besides a diocesan bishop. He is well aware of individual issues related to the life of the Church.
In the conversations I had with both his household and his closest colleagues, everyone emphasizes 1 thing: Leon XIV is highly thorough, fair and makes decisions only after proceeding all the parties. So if he now stood behind Archbishop Jędraszewski, he did so due to the fact that he considered it right – not under pressure.
Leon XIV is not susceptible to influence. In his action he is guided by what he gained from the Augustian Formation – the fact through the large “P” and the teaching of Christ. And in that it is – very rightly – uncompromising.
