Instead of a vacation carefree – a training ground, a drill and lectures. Students volunteers chose an different way to spend the summertime and decided to participate in the training of the Academic Legion. The course will be completed by an officer's examination attesting to the competences essential for future commanders.
Since 30 June 2025, intensive training has been underway at the Military method Academy as part of the officer module of the Academic Legion. For more than 2 months, students from all over Poland, under the supervision of experienced officers and lecturers, get the essential cognition in command positions. The course will last until 12 September and will end with an officer's examination and the appointment of participants as lieutenant. The program is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence.
Academic Legion is simply a unique chance for students and graduates of civilian universities who want to combine academic education with military careers. 49 people representing different fields of study, fields of interest and universities from all over Poland participate in the officer module held in the walls of the Military method Academy. They were joined by a soldier's uniform, a desire to fulfill their dreams and represent the Polish Army as future officers.
The officer's module places peculiar emphasis on shaping leadership skills, planning tactical actions, steering a division and making decisions under conditions of stress and work for people – these are key features of future officers. Participants agree that each day they are faced with tasks requiring courage and advanced intellectual resilience. At the same time, they are aware that cognition gained during the course can truly translate into the safety and future of our country. The training program includes, among others, tactics, drills, rules, communications, command, global humanitarian law, strategical communication, logistics, endurance and first aid. Volunteers train not only in lecture halls, but besides at the training ground and shooting range.
"The Module of the Academic Legion is unique – these are civilian students who combine their interests and passions with military preparation. They want to be commanders and specialists in their fields. This is not easy due to the fact that the agenda is very demanding and intense. WAT makes all effort to gain the applicable skills needed in the military. I am convinced that the Academic Legion will succeed. It's all in their hands... and our instructors" – says Captain Stanisław Ślusakowicz, 1 of the instructors liable for training students.
The officer module of the training of the Academic Legion is the culmination of the full training cycle and an crucial component of the training strategy of the Polish Armed Forces' individual reserves. The program not only develops leadership skills among students, but besides strengthens Poland's defence potential, making it attractive to ambitious and determined young people.
Academic Legion is an effort of character, the discipline of responsibility, teamwork and discipline. For participants it is the beginning of a new, demanding, yet rewarding career.
