Accused bracelet
Marine Le Pen announced in an interview with French tv TF1 that she intends to apply for the office of president of France in the elections scheduled for spring next year. The National Unity Leader besides informed that she would appeal the cassation court in connection with the Tuesday judgement of the Paris Court of Appeal.
The case concerns, among another things, the electronic supervision of the case. According to Le Pen's ruling, he is expected to wear an electronic bracelet for the next year, which, as she estimated, could importantly impede the presidential campaign. However, she hoped that the cassation court would suspend the execution of this part of the ruling, which would let her to participate in the run without this restriction.
Referring to the decision of the Court of Appeal, Le Pen stated that she was pleased to reconstruct the French's freedom of choice and stressed that the final vote on the substance would be for the voters.
Amendment of the judgment
It should be noted here that the Court of Appeal of Paris found Marine Le Pen guilty of misappropriation of European Parliament funds and sentenced her to 3 years imprisonment, with the execution of 2 years suspended. The remaining year of the policy is to be held in an electronic surveillance system. The detailed conditions for this part of the punishment will be laid down at a later date. However, it will be possible to leave the place of residence in certain situations, inter alia for professional or household reasons.
Le Pen was besides fined EUR 100 000. The court besides ruled against her a 45-month ban on applying for public functions, of which 30 months were suspended. The remaining 15 months were already considered to have been completed, as this period is counted from the judgement of the first instance court of 31 March 2025. This means softening an earlier ruling that provided for a five-year ban on running.
As a consequence of the appeal judgment, there are no longer formal obstacles for the National Unity leader to compete in the presidential elections in France, scheduled for the turn of April and May 2027.
Le Pen has appointed Prime Minister
If Marine Le Pen implements her announcements, she will search the office of president of France for the 4th time. She previously ran for election in 2012, 2017 and 2022. In the last of these votes, she achieved the best score in the past of the French right, scoring nearly 41.5 percent of the vote. However, in the second circular she lost to Emmanuel Macron, who gained over 58.5% of support.
The National Unity Leader besides announced that, in the event of a triumph in the presidential election, the Prime Minister would entrust his close associate Jordan Bardella.
