The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced Friday that the police had taken over a laptop from 1 of the pawnshops, suspecting that this equipment had been made available as part of the "Student Laptop" initiative. According to the Digital Resort, laptop safety information was made available on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.

The safety of the laptop by the police has attracted interest due to the "Student Laptop" program, which aims to enable distant learning of students, especially during the pandemic. This incidental raises questions about the usage and usage of laptops beyond their intended purpose. The Digital Ministry has not yet provided detailed information on the safety circumstances of the equipment or on how the equipment from the student program got into the pawn shop.

The safety placed on the equipment housing, in the form of an engraved sign, immediately raised suspicion among the competent services, resulting in the prompt conclusion of an effort at illegal sale. This information reached the applicable authorities shortly after the device was put up for sale, which lasted only for a fewer hours.

Nearly 400,000 laptops were sent to students

The program of distribution laptops for students was intended to deliver nearly 400,000 computers to students' hands. The Ministry liable for the implementation of the programme stressed that it has been monitoring the marketplace and auction activities online from the outset, with the intention of responding consistently to any breaches. It was clearly stressed that fourth-class students who received laptops under this program have no right to resell them.

School year 2023/2024 began on 4 September. Under the Law on support for the improvement of digital competences of students and teachers, by the end of 2023 each 4th grader in primary schools was to receive a laptop.

On 13 July of the same year, president Andrzej Duda approved the Act on supporting the improvement of digital competences of students and teachers, which assumes the yearly transportation of laptops to next year students of grades IV of primary schools – starting in the school year 2023/2024 – in both public and non-public schools. The ministry liable for the field of digitization announced that 394 346 laptops would be transferred this peculiar year.
