The Kurds bet on Iran

Until recently, relations between the Kurdistan Democratic organization (PDK) ruling in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and Iran were disastrous. Iran accused the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) of supporting groups of Iranian Kurds conducting an armed conflict against Iranian authorities, and having their bases in Iraqi Kurdistan. In addition, Tehran claimed that Mossad bases were established in the Iraqi Kurdistan capital of Irbil. It is not a secret that the PDK maintained close relations with Israel, even though under the Iraqi penal code even for calling for normalisation of relations with Israel is facing a life sentence.
