The Kurdistan Workers organization has self-solved. Its representatives have announced that this means the end of all fighting. The German press comments.

"Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" comments on the step of the Kurdistan Workers organization (PKK): "The announced self-solution of the Kurdish partisan PKK may give Turkey a fresh direction (...) But the way to peace is inactive far away, and success is not certain... There is now much talk about the democratisation of the Kurdish movement. Erdoğan will most likely usage the peace process to divide democratic forces and safe another word of office. It cannot be excluded that the Kurds will be tempted by cultural rights and will retreat their support for the imprisoned presidential candidate of the largest opposition party, Ekrem Imamoglu," we read.

According to the paper in erstwhile elections, Erdogan repeatedly and effectively utilized PKK as an enemy. "Because this can now be over for him, it becomes apparent that he will build a fresh image of the enemy from Immamoglu," he believes.

PKK resolution press. A Far Way to Peace

According to the paper "Frankfurter Rundschau", the announced dissolution of the Kurdistan Workers organization may be the beginning of the end of the conflict in Turkey, in which about 45,000 people died. However, in order to do so, Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would gotta address not only the surrender of the PKK, but besides the solution to political and social problems.

"To this end, he should initiate the peace process. The Kurds should be given more rights to be no longer treated as second-class citizens. It should besides guarantee that the Ostracism of PKK staff can be integrated into society. This is part of a plan that was developed 10 years ago, after talks with PKK at the time. However, the Turkish government has heard small about these key issues. The question so arises as to whether political players in the region will usage the maneuvering field opened by the end of the PKK," the diary writes.

The regional paper "Straubinger Tagblatt" believes that whether the past of the PKK and the armed conflict has truly come to an end will depend on whether the Kurds, who are about 1 5th of the Turkish population, will receive the same rights as the Turks.

"For example, whether their representatives will be released from prison. It will only be revealed what Öcalan (the imprisoned leader of PKK – ed.) negotiated for himself and the Kurds. Above all, what Erdoğan abruptly came to after all the Kurd demonization. Is he counting on the votes of the Kurds for an amendment to the constitution that would let him to run again?" – the paper wonders.

Quite optimistic events in Turkey comments "Stuttgarter Zeitung".

"A fresh impulse for relations after failure due to the arrest of Erdoğan's competitor Ekrem Imamoglu would be welcome both in Brussels and Ankara. Erdoğan needs better relations with Europe to get the Turkish economy out of the crisis. Europe wants a better relation with Turkey to have a strategically crucial and militaryly strong partner in uncertain times. PKK self-solution will not transform Turkey into a democratic state overnight. However, ending the Kurdish war after more than 40 years can open a fresh door in Turkey, including Europe," the diary says.

On Monday, May 12, the Kurdistan Workers organization made self-solutions – this happened after more than 46 years of its existence. PPK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the European Union and the USA.
