Cuba is drowning in the dark. Trump's pressures deepen the crisis

There was a complete disconnection of the National Power strategy (SEN). Reasons are being examined and protocols to reconstruct network operation implemented – reported the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mining on social media.

Steps have been taken to reconstruct electricity supply. In the following communication, the ministry reported that the units operating at the time of the disconnection of the electricity strategy were not damaged.

The causes of the situation are inactive being investigated. Reuter's agency reports that the defect has spread to about 10 million people – about 11 million people live in the country. A small over a week earlier, another major power failure occurred in Cuba, which covered the western part of the island and deprived millions of inhabitants of energy.

US policy against Cuba

According to reports from Associated Press, late the energy and economical crisis in Cuba has been increasing, and residents frequently attribute their difficulties to the multi-annual embargo on the part of the United States since the 1960s. Additionally, the situation worsens the political actions led by Donald Trump. Following the detention of Venezuelan leaders Nicolás Maduro on 3 January, the United States halted its supply of oil to Cuba and threatened with sanctions against states supporting the island with natural material supplies.

President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel reported on Friday that oil transports have not been reached there for more than 3 months and that the energy strategy is now mainly based on solar power, natural gas and heat plants.

MFA warns travelers

In connection with Monday events in Cuba, the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs besides issued its position. The message alerted those planning to travel to the island that they might encounter many inconveniences on site.
