Cuba reported on Saturday about a second nationwide power failure in little than a week – the Ministry of Energy of the country reported.
"The national energy network has failed completely. The implementation of procedures to reconstruct power has already been started," wrote the Ministry on the X portal.
According to AFP, this is the seventh failure in almost six months, and the second in little than a week. On 16 and 17 March, around 10 million inhabitants of the country experienced energy supply disruptions throughout the territory.
According to the government in Havana, US sanctions prevent the repair of ageing energy infrastructure, but the sector besides suffers from chronic shortages of state investment.
In January, the US covered the island with an embargo on oil imports from Venezuela and threatened another possible suppliers of natural material. U.S. president Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that "he will shortly do something with Cuba". The Secretary of State Marco Rubio, for his part, pointed out that power on the island must be taken over by “new people”.
