Peru and Chile have a dispute over which of them is the actual homeland of potatoes. The start of the war was a message by Chilean agriculture minister 17 years ago that 99 percent of potatoes consumed present have their pedigree in ChileWhich is confirmed by genetic research. This outraged Peruvians. They consider this vegetable national pride. Their abroad minister immediately issued a message after this diplomatic figure that the potatoes came from Peru due to the fact that they had already planted them in the Inca, and were so crucial to them that the rulers themselves and the aristocracy participated in their cultivation. He added that it was from here that the conquistadors took them to Europe in 1573, and that thanks to them Peru saved the planet from starvation, and besides changed eating habits throughout the earth. The dispute remains unresolved.
China is presently the leader in potato production. In South America, however, there is simply a variety of different varieties, flavors and colors (white, yellowish, orange, somewhat blue, purple, pink and red shades). And the fields planted with this plant match meadows, for their flowers are besides in different colors.
