In fresh days, the political scene in Poland has again become an arena of turbulent events which have sparked controversy and prompted reflection on how public institutions operate. 1 of the main characters of these events was Zbigniew Ziobro, a erstwhile Justice Minister who was detained by the police on Friday at the tv Republic headquarters. However, it was not the arrest itself, but the reactions of politicians and the comments of Deputy talker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak paid peculiar attention to the public.

Ziobro stopped, committee on fire criticism

Zbigniew Ziobro, erstwhile head of the Justice Ministry, was detained by the police during an interview on tv Republic. He was then transported in an unmarked police car to the Sejm, where he was to be interviewed by the Pegasus committee of inquiry. However, as sources report, Ziobro failed to attend the proceeding at the appointed time, which prompted the committee to vote on a request for 30-day detention for the erstwhile minister. The only voice of objection was Mr Przemysław Wipler of the Confederation.

After this event, the committee's gathering was concluded and the full situation became the subject of a heated public debate. Deputy talker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak spared no harsh words at the members of the committee, identifying their actions as a "political nativity scene".

Bosak: ‘Politic Nativity scene and emotional imbalance’

Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy talker of the Sejm and prominent Confederate politician, in his speech in the programme "Guest of the Morning" TVP Info did not leave a dry thread on the members of the Pegasus committee. The politician stated that both Ziobro and the members of the committee acted in a way that resembled theatre alternatively than serious investigation.

– On the 1 hand, Zbigniew Ziobro and his surroundings related to PiS and the journalistic environment supporting the PiS, I mean tv Republic [...]. The second part is the politicians of the presently ruling coalition, who in this committee of enquiry [ds. Pegasus – p.d.] work and fund a second installment of the show," said Bosak.

The politician stressed that Ziobro deliberately did not attend the proceeding to be detained, which was intended to draw media attention. In turn, according to Bosak, the committee interrupted the gathering erstwhile it learned that Ziobro was on his way to the Sejm, thus avoiding direct confrontation.

“The Commission did not want to question Zbigniew Ziobra, so she rapidly interrupted her gathering as shortly as she was informed that Zbigniew Ziobro was already arriving at the Sejm. And she besides achieved her own, that is, she had her 5 minutes in the media, she did not gotta question the erstwhile minister – Bosak continued.

"Emotional imbalance" – Bosak's strong assessment

Bosak did not simply criticise the committee's actions but besides assessed its members as "emotionally not entirely balanced". The politician admitted that he had been watching the press conference of the members of the committee after a mix-up with Ziobra's proceeding and considered their behaviour to be “sad” and unprofessional.

– I think, however, that serious politicians, balanced, experienced should be active in investigating the abuse of peculiar services, and there this squad that hit me, I feel that it is embarrassing themselves," Bosak added.

Summary: Political theatre or serious investigation?

The events of fresh days show how much politics in Poland can match theatre, where the aim is not so much to solve problems, but to gain the momentary attention of the media. The Pegasus Commission, which aimed to analyse the abuse of peculiar services, has become a political arena of harassment, which, in Krzysztof Bosak's opinion, only embarrasses its members.

Is this a public good, or is it just a political game? This question remains open, but 1 thing is certain – Bosak's comments pay attention to the request for greater seriousness and professionalism in politics.
