Crisis in Lithuanian Government: Defence Minister resigns after conflict with Prime Minister

"I resign as Minister of National Defence. I sent a letter of resignation present at 10:00 a.m.," wrote Šakalienė on Facebook. She pointed out that she hoped to work with the Prime Minister a period ago, but “unfortunately, that is impossible. We have a fundamentally different approach to strengthening defence." The Minister stressed that each institution should have adequate resources to fulfil its safety responsibilities, and the Prime Minister felt that these funds should only come from the Ministry of Defence's budget.
