W On Thursday, the FORT Kraków – DIANA accelerator was officially opened, which operates within NATO and is run by a consortium of AGH University of discipline and Technology and Kraków Technology Park. Poland is the only country on the east flank of the Alliance to receive a DIANA accelerator from NATO, 10 test centers and an office of the NATO Innovation Fund.
The main nonsubjective of the Kraków Centre is to make and support innovative dual-use technologies, both for the military and civilian industry. The accelerator is to focus on antidrohn systems, critical infrastructure safety solutions and artificial intelligence technologies.
Challenges for Poland
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed the key challenge facing Poland during the opening. «Translation from the language of discovery into the language of everyday usefulness, regular production is present the biggest challenge for Poland. We're behind and we gotta catch up. Here we gotta bet on acceleration, that is, acceleration”, said the minister.
Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that it is the nonsubjective of DIANA and Krakow Technology Park.
Defence independency of Europe
The Minister called for the reindustrialisation of the continent and the construction of European supply chains. «Without independency in deliveries to the Polish army, we will never be safe to the European army of military equipment. The supply chain must be built in Europe. Europe must focus on reindustrialisation, industrial reconstruction”, said Kosiniak-Kamish.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his ambition to make the arms manufacture a driver of the Polish economy and guarantee independency in supplying the army with equipment.
Importance to NATO
Kosiniak-Kamysz described the Kraków hotel as “the best example that NATO is developing its capabilities on the east flank”. According to the Minister, the aim of the accelerator is to “build independency in equipment supplies and rapidly implement modern technologies”.
The DIANA network is to combine scientists, innovators and start-ups working on "deep tech" solutions with defence and military sector actors. The accelerator will besides conduct educational activities on advanced technological needs resulting from modern war and hybrid threats.
