Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the leader of the PSL, amazed the political scene by proposing that Rafał Trzaskowski – the fresh candidate of KO for president – play a key function in talks about the future of the coalition. Trzaskowski at the centre of political competitions
After the second defeat in the presidential election, Rafał Trzaskowski returns to Warsaw City Hall, but his future inactive sparks speculation. Will it stay in local politics or will it choose the way to the European Parliament? Meanwhile, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of PSL, openly invited him to discuss the form of the coalition.
– Rafał Trzaskowski has his perspective, he has his accomplishments and skills, which are worth it to us to make out of respect for the voters who voted for him said Kosiniak-Kamish during a press conference in the Sejm.
Why is the PSL betting on Trzaskowski?
Although not long ago the people did not hide that they would like the Civic Coalition to exposure Radosław Sikorski as a common candidate, they are now changing the narrative. As Onet notes, “At first glance, it may surprise”, especially since PSL criticized Trzaskowski's progressive agenda, which, in their opinion, contributed to his failure.
– It's a game of weakness, Tusk. PSL creates its own agenda, it is not in an easy situation, so it simply does politics. Donald's position after the election is surely not stronger, so Kosiniak-Kamish tries to usage it – comments anonymous origin from KO.
Is PSL preparing for election 2027?
Experts indicate that the Kosiniak-Kamisha movement may be due to concerns about the collapse of the PSL. The party, which has been struggling with low support for years, realises that in the following elections it may not exceed the electoral threshold. Trzaskowski's engagement in coalition talks may be an effort to strengthen his own position and gain a centre-right electorate.
Will this strategy succeed? Everything depends on whether Trzaskowski decides to play an active function in national politics, whether he will focus on Warsaw and on a possible European career.
