The Catholic Church in Algeria looks forward to the arrival of Pope Leon XIV. In the places to which the Holy Father is to visit, the final preparations continue.
W Algiers, the streets which the Pope will pass were cleared and the square in front of the Basilica of Our woman of Africa was renovated. In the full city, both law enforcement and safety forces are visible.
Pope Leon XIV will arrive in Algeria on 13 April at 9 a.m. local time (10.00 in Poland). The program included a visit to the Monument of Glory and Martyrdom, commemorating the Algerian War of independency from 1954 to 1962.
Official gathering with the president as well as representatives of the authorities and diplomatic corps, a visit to the Grand Mosque, a visit to the centre led by the Augustian missionary sisters and a gathering with the Catholic community in the Basilica of Our woman of Africa. On Tuesday, April 14, Leon XIV will go to Annaba (formerly Hippony), connected with St Augustine, where he will visit the home of elder Care conducted by the small Sisters of the Poor, meet with the Augustine and severance Mass in St Augustine's Basilica.
