In 2025, an yearly survey of Sunday spiritual practices, that is, counting Catholics obliged to attend Holy Mass and to join Holy Communion, will be held on Sunday 19 October in all parishes of the country.
Counting the faithful in the country traditionally takes place erstwhile a year, on 1 of the Sundays of October.
This year, in accordance with the resolution of the Polish Episcopal Conference, an yearly survey of Sunday spiritual practices (dominicantes and communicates) will be held on Sunday, October 19th – informed the Archdiocese of Warsaw.
The Statistical Yearbook of the Catholic Church in Poland "Annuary Statisticalum Ecclesia in Polonia" of the statistic Institute of the Catholic Church of SAC for the year 2023 reported that the dominicantes index (persons participating in the Sunday Mass) was 29.2% (2022 – 29.5%, 2021 – 28.3%) and the communites index (communicantes) – 14.2% (2022 – 13.9%, 2021 – 12.9%).
The highest ratio of communicates in 2023 was recorded in Tarnów diocese – 24.4% (2022 – 25.6%), Zamojsko-lubaczowska – 21.1% (2022 – 19.6%) and Białystok diocese – 20.01 percent (2022 – 20.5%). In turn, the lowest – in the Archdiocese of Szczecin-Kamien and Sosnowiec after (8.5 percent).
The Institute of statistic of the Catholic Church SAC named after Fr. Witold Zdanewicz established the Association of Catholic Apostolicty (the Duke of Pallotin) in 1972 as the Department of Sociology of Religion. ISKK is the oldest independent investigation centre in Poland conducting investigation on religion, Catholicism and its social contexts. He cooperates with the Central Statistical Office.
