Extensions temporarily for six months - from 5 October 2025 to 4 April 2026 - border control at the border with Germany and Lithuania wants the Ministry of Interior and Administration. Border checks were introduced on 7 July. The current regulation extended the checks from 6 August to 4 October.
The draft regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs and Administration Marcin Kierwiński went into interministerial arrangements, which were set until 19 September. The paper was on Wednesday on the pages of the Government Legislative Centre.
The Ministry wants to extend it temporarily for six months - 5 October 2025 to 4 April 2026 - border control at the border with Germany and Lithuania.

Poland has restored temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania, during which border guards, supported by the police and WOT soldiers, may halt the selected vehicles for inspection. According to the government, this is essential to reduce the uncontrolled flow of migrants.

Under the Schengen Borders Code a associate State may reconstruct border control at interior borders for up to six months in the event of a foreseeable serious threat to public policy or interior security.

Where specified a serious threat persists for more than half a year, the country may extend the control for a further period of up to 2 years, not more than six months.
In this case, it is required prior notification to the associate States of the Agreement, the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission.
