Consul to visit Stargard

At the end of last year the investment in the global War Cemetery ended. 2 monuments were full renovated. The gloss recovered monuments commemorating French and Italian soldiers. Our city and necropolis at W. Reymonta Street was visited by Italian Honorary Consul Angelo Reella, who gave president Rafał Zając thanks for this investment from the Italian Ambassador to Poland Luci Franchetti Parda.

– The monument erected in 1991 commemorates 26 Italian prisoners who died in Stalag II D. It is an crucial component in spreading the memory of these young soldiers who died in defence of their homeland. He keeps their spirit and the evidence they have left behind. On behalf of the Italian State and my fellow Members, I would like to express my thanks to all those who have made it possible to rebuild the monument, a symbol of the victims who died in the service of their homeland. It is simply a tribute to their memory, at the same time a reminder of a fairer society," writes Luc Franchetti Pardo, Italian ambassador to Poland.

The monument of Italian soldiers commemorates the people who were buried in the war cemetery. As part of last year's investment, the monument was thoroughly cleared and the losses were completed. At the end of the work, decorative elements are much better presented, which are much clearer. A fresh surface was besides made around both monuments. The value of the works is almost PLN 240 000. – The global War Cemetery is the largest specified necropolis in the region. This is simply a peculiar place due to the number of POW burials of both planet wars and the multitude of nationalities of these soldiers. We care about this cemetery and will proceed to invest in its revitalization, which is crucial in the context of identity, but besides in the memory of the cruelty of war. I appreciate very much that our efforts have been noticed by the Italian State, whose soldiers are celebrated in Stargard in a dignified manner," says president Rafał Zając.

The location of this monument at the global War Cemetery is not accidental. There are graves of Italians, but besides Poles, French, Serbs and British. We are successfully investing in this necropolis. In 2022 1 of the monuments and fences was renovated. The monuments commemorating Italian and French soldiers were restored in 2023. There was besides a table with information in respective languages.
