The renovation of the bridge in Tczew is entering the next stage. Thanks to the decision of the Pomeranian Provincial Monument Conservator, it will be possible to recreate historical defender towers and to decision a fragment of the ESTB bay. These key steps will let for further work and the usage of PLN 60 million from the National Reconstruction Plan.
Historical defender towers will return to the bridge
The maintenance decision enables the reconstruction of cylindrical defender towers on the pillars of the bridge from the city side. This aims to reconstruct the first architectural form of the monument and its method integrity. The reconstruction will be carried out with the highest quality of workmanship and the usage of appropriate materials.
As the Pomeranian Provincial Monument Conservationist stressed, the reconstruction task preceded a detailed historical analysis. The work will be done to preserve the unique character of the bridge and its aesthetic qualities, while adapting it to modern functional requirements.
The ESTB bay will be moved
Another crucial decision concerns the transfer of a fragment of the ESTB bay to a close plot. It will be deposited in the monitored area from the post-war period, allowing it to be carefully examined and identified for future conservation activities.
The dismantling and assembly of components will be carried out in accordance with the first technology utilized in this kind of construction. This will enable conservationists to better measure the method condition of the monument and decide on further steps to defend it.

Next steps in rebuilding the bridge in Tczew
The approved changes enable the tender to be issued for the next phase of the bridge renovation, which will enable the mobilisation of funds from the National Reconstruction Plan. The work will proceed the already completed elements, including concrete constructions of pillars and bays.
The bridge in Tczew, 1 of the most valuable engineering monuments in Poland, gradually regains its old appearance. This investment will not only reconstruct its historical character, but will besides increase its functionality and security.
