End of June '56 investigation, possibly after vacation?
date:24 June 2025 Editor: Editorial
Perhaps in September a final decision will be made on the investigation of crimes committed in connection with the Poznań June ’56 by communist state officials,’ informed PAP Prosecutor Mirosław Więckowiak. The proceedings were extended until the end of the year.

The prosecutor admitted that the final substantive decision was more time-consuming than originally assumed, hence a further postponement of the deadline for completion of the investigation.
On 28 June 1956, workers of Cegielski Plant, then Stalin Plant, took a general strike and organized a street demonstration, bloodyly suppressed by militia and military. According to the investigation, 58 people lost their lives at the time.
According to earlier plans, the investigation was to be concluded at the turn of 2021 and 2022. The deadline for the final, comprehensive substantive decision has been extended respective times. This was affected, among others, by the amount of evidence to be processed.
The investigation of events of 28 and 29 June 1956 in Poznań has been ongoing since 1991.
