Press conference at the Royal Castle

At the Royal Castle in Warsaw, a press conference was held inaugurating the task and run "Mission: Free Poland". During the event held on Monday, 26 September, details of the task to make a Mausoleum of Presidents of the Republic of Poland in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw and to bring the remains of the 3 Presidents of the Republic of Poland to the country were announced.

During the conference the Deputy president of the Institute of National Memory Dr. Karol Polejowski presented the historical background of the project, stressing that the government in exile for more than 50 years was engaged not only in politics, but besides in maintaining national and cultural identity in an emigration environment. He besides stressed the importance of the office of president of the Republic of Poland in exile.

– The Office of the president of Poland was, in accordance with the provisions of the April Constitution, the highest office in Poland. The Presidents of the Republic of Poland in exile were depositaries of legal, democratically elected power. They actively engaged in spreading the fact about genocide in Katyn and another crimes committed by the Soviets on Polish citizens. It was the Presidents of Poland who held the thought of an independent, sovereign and free state in exile. They were the ones who spoke abroad about the fact that Poland after a year ’45 is not a free country, but is under abroad russian domination – Dr. Karol Polejowski said during the conference.

Jan Dziedziczak, a typical of the Government for Polish and Polish affairs, stressed the request to make a home of Memory. – So far, although it has been almost thirty-two years since the insignia was handed over, Poland has not experienced specified a place. There was no place to pay tribute to the Presidents of the Republic of Poland in exile, as well as to learn about the past of the full thought of legal regulation during the period of communism," he said.

The conference was besides attended by: Wojciech Labuda – the typical of the Prime Minister for the protection of memorial sites, Mikołaj Falkowski – the president of the Foundation “Help Poles in the East” and Juliusz Szymczak-Gałkowski – associate of the Foundation’s Management Board.
