Confederate press conference attended by Dr. Radosław Czosnowski and Members Konrad Berkovich and Ryszard Wilk on the establishment of the Parliamentary Group for Paliative medicine and the Repair of the wellness Protection System, 17 January 2024.

Dr. Radosław Czosnowski, head of the infirmary in Nowy Targ:
"The aim of the Group will be to prepare various projects, legislative suggestions for Members, first on palliative medicine, second on the full wellness system, which everyone sees all day.

What is the problem of palliative medicine? Palliative medicine deals, mostly speaking, with patients with a progressive, incurable disease, frequently about the end of life. frequently with numerous, very hard to control conditions specified as pain, nausea, vomiting and many another symptoms. Palliative medicine besides deals with patients during oncological treatment, where there are various complications after chemotherapy, where there are increased radiation reactions.

At the moment, the number of patients receiving palliative care is around 100,000 per year. This is insufficient in relation to needs. And we have a demographic tsunami ahead of us. At the moment, the wellness care strategy is struggling with the 1930s, 40s, where these yearbooks number 300-350 1000 people. And in a moment, the 1950s yearbooks will come in, with an average of 800,000 people. In the 1950s, 800,000 children were born in the postwar boom.

The individual who was born in 1954 is now 70. In a fewer years he will be, and frequently already is, a “beneficiary” of the wellness care strategy that is inefficient. 1 3rd of these people should be treated in a palliative manner. The activities of the Group will aim at specified preparation of regulations, legal capacity to supply adequate assistance to these people.

About the strategy analysis. In 2019 there were 2 reports of the ultimate Audit Office, 1 on palliative care, the another on deficiencies in the functioning of the wellness system. So far no of the conclusions, no of the requests presented in these NIK reports have been taken into account. ...
