The French police arrested 2 more suspects in connection with the thwarted attack on the Paris branch of the Bank of America," the anti-terrorism prosecutor (PNAT) reported today.
"Two more people were detained [on Saturday – PAP] in the evening as part of an investigation launched on 28 March 2026 on crimes committed against the Bank of America", the prosecutor informed.
Under French law, persons suspected of terrorism may be held in custody for up to 96 hours, with the anticipation of extension with the approval of the court.
On Saturday, PNAT informed of the initiation of an investigation into attempted demolition of fire or another dangerous means, as well as the production, possession and transport of explosives or incendiaries.
The first suspect, a minor, was detained on Saturday. His arrest was extended. The detainee testified that she was hired by an unknown individual who, through Snapchat, promised him 600 euros for the attack.
When asked by BFMTV tv about possible payers, the head of the MSW Laurent Nunez pointed out suspicions about Iran, but warned that they had not yet been confirmed.
Commenting on the circumstances of the thwarting of the assassination, the minister said that on Saturday morning a police patrol spotted 2 primers and attempting to set a homemade explosive on fire before the bank. He added that the device, though primitive, could be effective. He stated that the perpetrators were most likely common law enforcement criminals. He said that the authorities saw a similarity to incidents in the Netherlands, Belgium, large Britain and Norway, where attempts were made to plant explosives at facilities associated with the USA.
As Bloomberg's agency reminded, in early March an explosive exploded under a judaic school in Amsterdam. In Rotterdam a cargo was detonated in the local synagogue; six people were detained. In Norway, 4 people – parent and 3 sons – were detained due to an detonation outside the US embassy in Oslo.
The Iranian embassy in France refused to comment on Nunez's statement.
