Another bombing
The Central Command of the United States (CENTCOM) reported that on Wednesday evening east American time, or around 3 p.m. in Poland, a second series of hits on targets in Iran was carried out that day. The attacks were aimed, among others, at command centers, anti-aircraft defence stations, rocket and drone related installations and coastal surveillance facilities.
According to CENTCOM, the aim of the operation is to limit Iran's ability to pose a threat to merchant vessels passing through the Ormuz Strait. The actions utilized precise ammunition, and the impacts covered respective locations, including the strategical port of Bandar Abbas.
Earlier that day, American forces carried out a series of raids of about 90 minutes to shore defence stations and maneuvering missiles located on large Tunb Island. Located more than 20 kilometres south of Keszm Island, in the Iranian state of Hormozgan, it is of large strategical importance for Iran's naval defence system. The United arabian Emirates besides applies to the island.
An agreement is simply a condition
Wednesday was the 5th day in a row of American bombing targets in Iran. president Donald Trump announced that the operations would proceed until Tehran reached an agreement. He besides warned that in the absence of a change of position of Iran, attacks could be extended to further infrastructure elements, including power plants and bridges. As he pointed out, specified escalation could happen next week.
That same evening Trump besides reported that Iran had agreed to leave the country of an American citizen who had been held by the Iranian authorities since 2024. The president of the United States described this decision as a affirmative and commendable gesture.
Expert doubts success
Mark Esper, erstwhile U.S. Secretary of defence during Donald Trump's first term, in an interview with the “Financial Times” estimated that the bombing strategy itself would not change Iran's position or his desire to keep control of the Ormuz Strait.
Esper expressed doubts as to whether resuming intensive raids over a long period of time would bring crucial results. During the Tuesday gathering of National safety Experts in Aspen, he pointed out that the Trump administration should consider utilizing extended economical force as a way to resolve the strait dispute, which contributed to the emergence in fuel prices worldwide.
In his view, the United States has different methods of force on Iran, including large-scale military action or an effort to weaken the country through economical measures.
