On September 12, the Sejm passed an amendment to the laws concerning the verification of the right to household benefits for foreigners and the rules for assisting Ukrainian citizens who fled the war. The fresh regulations provide, among another things, for the extension of the legal residence of Ukrainians in Poland until 4 March 2026 and for the tightening of the rules for granting benefits, including the link between the programme 800 plus with the professional activity of the beneficiaries.
Jachira as the voice of the KO?
Earlier, the bill was dealt with by the Sejm's administration and home affairs committee, which rejected the amendments by MP Claudia Jacira. The messenger proposed a link between the benefit 800 plus with professional activity of not only foreigners, but besides Polish citizens. The amendments rejected were tabled as number requests.
Three weeks ago, on the occasion of the Ukrainians and Ukrainians aid bill, I tabled amendments which would only benefit Polish families in which at least 1 parent is active. The amendments did not find a majority in the Sejm, I was suspended by the club KO. But this essential discussion began, and well! [...] aid from public money should go to the most deprived or we should invest it in strategy solutions – Jachira wrote on platform X.
The spokeswoman of the KO club, Dorota Loboda, told PAP that the proposals of MP Jacira were incompatible with the position of the Civic Coalition as the organization does not plan any changes to the programme 800 plus. She added that Claudia Jachira was asked to retreat the amendment, which she did not do, and then appeared on the Sejm's platform, sustaining her motion, which could have been mistakenly perceived as the club's position.
Ukrainians must work
Service Forsal.pl, citing government sources, reported that the Council of Ministers was considering linking the benefits 800 plus with his parents' employment. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy denied these reports, stressing in the Communication that it is not carrying out any work to change the rules for the provision of educational services.
At the end of September, president Karol Nawrocki signed a law on assisting Ukrainian citizens, which tightens the rules for granting household benefits to foreigners. The right to benefits was linked to the activity of the parent and the education of children in Polish schools, with exceptions for people with disabilities. In addition, benefits will depend on foreigners achieving at least 50% of the minimum wage, or PLN 2333 gross for 2025.
