KLM Introduces First Airbus A350 Simulator to Train Pilots in Netherland

AMSTERDAM– KLM (KL) has officially introduced the first Airbus A350 flight simulator in the Netherlands, marking a significant milestone in its preparations for the arrival of the A350 aircraft at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in late 2026.

With the A350 joining the long-haul fleet, the airline aims to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and provide pilots with access to cutting-edge operational tools well ahead of entry into service.

KLM’s simulator will provide pilots with hands-on training in a realistic and safe environment, ensuring readiness for the airline’s next-generation widebody fleet.

KLM’s A350 simulator was designed and manufactured by CAE in Montreal, Canada. The acceptance process mirrored the procedures used for a real aircraft, including detailed cockpit and systems testing before shipping to Europe.

Delivered in multiple parts, the simulator required a complex installation at Schiphol-East due to its size. It could not pass through the main gate and had to be hoisted over the perimeter fence before being reassembled and calibrated.

Now fully installed, the simulator is ready for training. KLM confirmed that the first group of pilots will soon begin their sessions on the device, providing early operational familiarity with Airbus’s newest long-haul aircraft.

Training Pilots for the Airbus A350

The simulator replicates the Airbus A350’s advanced cockpit environment, complete with next-generation avionics and flight management systems.

By training in this setup, KLM pilots can practice routine procedures, handle emergency scenarios, and improve situational awareness without the risks associated with in-flight training.
