The long-running battles for Mariupol and Bachmut become a symbol of urban battles fought during the conflict in Ukraine. Elevated to the rank of symbol of Ukrainian resistance, they can be another explanation of the tactics of conflict in urbanized areas, as well as the possible function of cities in future armed conflict and military operations. Despite the general impression that regardless of the phase of Russian aggression, cities of various sizes or another built-up areas seem to be 1 of the main objectives of the Russian army's operations, the question should be asked about the real importance of urban fighting in Ukraine. Do the observations from Ukraine actually fit into the Russian concept of conducting operations in the urban environment and can service as a clue to the concept of the defence operation of the Polish Republic of Poland.
