Electric drivers can breathe. Bus lanes legal until the end of 2027

The spectrum of standing in traffic has been removed. The president has signed an amendment to the Road Traffic Law, which extends 1 of the most crucial privileges for electrical car owners.

The anticipation of legally moving around the bus lanes, which would expire at the end of this year, was maintained for another 2 years.

This decision ends the legislative rollercoaster we have seen in fresh weeks. This privilege was originally to apply until 1 January 2026. Although a bill extending the deadline up to 2028 was passed in Parliament, it was vetoed by the president due to controversial, "put" amendments to it concerning the financing of bus services.

The fresh "pure" law (print No 1677), signed by the head of state, sets the final date of validity of the privilege at 31 December 2027.

Who benefits and who doesn't?

It is worth reminding that the rules are precise. Only:

  • Total electrical vehicles (BEV).
  • Vehicles powered by fuel cell hydrogen (FCEV).

This privilege does not apply to hybrids, even plug-ins (PHEVs). The condition is to have green plates or an appropriate EE sticker on the window. According to EV Klub Polska research, in crowded cities, buspass driving saves up to 30 minutes a day, which for many drivers is simply a key argument behind switching to electrician.

Revolution for young people and stricter penalties

The Act besides introduces another revolutionary changes on Polish roads:

  • Driving licence from the age of 17: minors will be able to get a category B licence (with certain restrictions).
  • Loss of driving licence besides out of town: velocity regulations are tightened up. Now the driving licence will be stopped for 3 months for speeding more than 50 km/h besides outside the built-up area (on one-way, two-way roads).
  • Teen helmets: The work to wear helmets by children up to the age of 16 was introduced erstwhile cycling or electrical scooters.

Autonomous ride must wait

Unfortunately, veto against the erstwhile law besides brought losses to the technology industry. The new, signed paper did not include provisions allowing investigating of autonomous vehicles on Polish public roads and regulations on alleged professional registration for dealers and manufacturers. The Polish automotive manufacture will gotta wait for these innovations.
