On Sunday evening around 18 o'clock there was a serious accident in the village of Grobla in Łódź Voivodeship. A drunk driver drove into a 156-person pilgrimage column, which headed for Częstochowa.
– 10 injured people including a 2.5-year-old kid were taken to hospitals in Koński, Włoszczowa, Radomsk, Częstochowa and Łódź. Most of them suffered fractures and bruises, said the press officer of the Radom region Police Command asp. Dariusz Kaczmarek.
The event occurred on a consecutive long of road, in the forest, just a fewer kilometres before the village where the pilgrims had a planned accommodation.
54-year-old Opel driver was drunk – in the breathed air he had a 1.3-promile alcohol. In addition, he was banned from driving.
Six medical rescue teams, 3 rescue helicopters and 8 state troop and volunteer fire brigades participated in the rescue.
