Is bail on the bottles gonna ruin our wallets? Minister explains the fresh system

Since 1 October, Poland has a fresh bailout system. This means that the price of the drink is added to the return charge per package. The Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska explained whether this would have a strong impact on Poles' wallets.

Our country, as the 19th in the European Union, joined the programme of the deposit strategy in stores. Therefore, the price of the bottle, both glass and plastic, will be displayed in a separate position on the receipt.

Paulina Hennig-Kloska, head of the environment, took the lead on this change in Polish stores. In the program "Graffiti" she was asked if it would burden the wallets of Poles and lead to higher prices.

Minister on deposit for bottles: this is simply a migrant cost, not expenses

– It's going to come back to us, so it's going to be specified a migrating cost in our wallet, not expense. This deposit will come back, along with how we will return the bottle to the store – the minister stressed.

During the interview, Hennig-Kloska mentioned that "currently only 45 percent of bottles return to the system, and the intent of the changes is to lead to 90 percent and to change the thought that it is the producer, not the consumer pays for waste put into the garbage".

– This is the thought of a full system, not only a bailout, but besides a fresh waste management model, which is the most in Poland, i.e. packaging, it will encourage producers to save and to introduce reusable bottles," she explained.

Let us remind you that the bail is now covered by:

disposable plastic bottles (PET) up to 3 litres,

metal cans up to 1 litre,

glass reusable bottles up to 1.5 litres.

The cost of specified containers will be added at the box office, at the time of payment for purchases. Let us remember that the price shown on the store shelf does not include this fee. Packages covered by the strategy will be labelled accordingly. They will display a symbol of the bail system, as well as information about the amount of bail.

The bail can be refunded in 3 ways:

cash,

automatic voucher – printed receipt with deposit amount, which can be converted to cash at the cashier's office or utilized to reduce the acquisition bill

by transfer or payment card.
