Karol Nawrocki defeated Rafał Trzaskowski in the second circular of the vote and in August he will presume the office of president of the Polish Republic. Pursuant to Article 134 of the Polish Constitution, the president is the Head of the Armed Forces, and during peace he exercises authority through the Minister of National Defence. Furthermore, it is up to the president to appoint the Chief of General Staff and commanders of types of armed forces, besides the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces during the war.
