I would like to ask any priests (and all of us): how do we realize these words of Scripture today?
“For I was hungry, and you gave me food... I was a stranger, and you accepted me...” (Mt 25,35–36)
“The visitor who has settled among you will be considered a citizen...” (Cep 19,33–34)
“He loves a foreigner, giving him bread and clothing. You besides love the foreigner...” (Pwt 10,18–19)
“I will appear as a witness... against what oppresses strangers...” (Ml 3,5)
“Do not forget the hospitality...through it some, without knowing, gave hospitality to angels...” (Hbr 13,1-3)
“Do all that this foreigner will call upon you...” (1 Kings 8,41–43)
“You will leave it for the mediocre and for the stranger...” (Cep 19,9–10)
Aren't those words more applicable present than ever?
Are we truly trying to fill them out?
Can we look at the needy, the refugee, excluded—for Christ?
I'm not asking out of spite.
I am an agnostic – but I believe that the Gospel is not just words, but a concrete attitude.
