In their case, he sent a peculiar letter to the Marshal of the Sejm of Simon Holownia. He wrote that, as a consequence of the application of the law of grace to Members, "there are no grounds for the termination of the mandate". Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik were sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment and a five-year ban on public office on Wednesday. The Warsaw territory Court found them guilty in relation to operational activities during the alleged land scandal.
President Duda spoke to Radio Zet about the conviction of erstwhile Members of the Law and Justice who had been in charge of services in Poland for years.
– PI told them that if they were placed in a prison, they would be the first political prisoners after 89 years in Poland. I absolutely disagree with the verdict of the court. I think this is simply a complete violation of the Constitution's standards. As president of the Republic, I applied a pardon. This is simply a presidential prerogative without any conditions to which there are no legal measures said the President.
In a short entry on X, Duda's words were commented by writer Jacek Międlar.
